First Pool - Opened with pool store two weeks ago and NOW found TFP. Help Please

Re: Whelp, I think I might be up the creek ::sigh::

Oh, man it was all Bioguard? That must have been expensive. Sorry :(

BioGuard Super Soluble = dichlor = 29ppm of FC and 26ppm of CYA
Burnout 3 = cal-hypo = ~13ppm FC and 9ppm CH
Silk complete sticks = trichlor = not sure what they weigh, but assuming 8oz each = 12ppm of FC and 7ppm CYA

So that might have barely reach shock FC level if your CYA is up around 150.

Welcome to TFP! It always amazes me when someone has an issue and all these good folks jump in to help...TFP/TFP members ROCK!! Have you considered becoming a TFP supporter :)

You're not kidding, this forum and the members are setting the bar high. I actually already donated earlier this afternoon. Gold for the win. TFP deserves it no question.

Work productivity has definitely dropped since I found the pool school. I'm great with the concepts and relationships, but the maths take me a bit longer lol. My wife is the math teacher so at least I can pull my weight somewhere to help her out!

Yea I don't want to talk about it, that was a huge deposit at the PS, and I actually saved almost $200 with their sale to VIP members. My parents used them for, seriously, almost 25 years and earned VIP status. So I went in and got a print out of the past 8 years to gauge how much chem I would need for the season. This was back in March, I thought I was being smart. Whoops! And I don't think they take returns on chemicals :pukel:

I ran down this afternoon and removed the trichlor sticks from the skimmers. They were less than half-way dissolved so thats good.

Love, love, love your pool and deck! I can't wait for you to see it all clean and clear!!!

:D Thank you! We are very fortunate to have this house and pool. Going to bust our butts to keep it nice for sure.

Bioguard !!!! EEEEEKKKK!

I opened a bottle of wine when I opened the last bag of mineral springs stuff. Previous owner opened the pool for me before they moved out and I paid the opening and chemicals.
$1500! If I only knew then what I know now.... such is life.

Congrats and welcome to the club! No real math required except divide by two or multiply...pool math and get the phone app so you don't have to keep paper records.

I would try for store credit, since your parents account (was) VIP :gone: Even if they only give you a "fraction" of the cost, it's still better then nothing at all :bump:

You'll be so pleased and so will the parents! At a fraction of the previous cost to maintain!

Heck, there’s always craigslist. Although I would feel a bit guilty passing all that stuff along.

I’ve got several bottles of shock sitting on a shelf because I don’t want to give it to someone else and have them wreck their CYA!

(side note so as not to derail the thread: You can use it to add CYA if your pool needs it. It's the constant use of stabilized chlorine that drives the CYA up to sky high amounts :end side note)

Actually went in and spoke with a girl who works there and she understood my frustrations. She actually said she agrees and herself doesn't agree with all of the product pushing (was also a chem major and doesn't buy into all of the chemical dumping). She is going to let me return most of the chems I bought! So at least I feel comfortable with one person there. Big win today.

I actually thought about that but I would feel terrible also, unless I found that one person who doesn't care and uses the pool store stuff. But hopefully I don't have to go down that road because they are going to let me return them. phew

If I need to I will use that, but if they accept the return then problem solved. Can always get more.

Yep, aware, thanks! This stuff has copper in it - no bueno.

THAT is excellent customer service! "No doubt they think you'll see the error of your ways and come back for chem's at full price" (joke)

SCORE on the returns. Now you just have to make sure she is there when you go to take them back to avoid someone else saying nope.

OK Got my test kit in and returned the chemicals. Are are the results from the TF 100

CYA 150+
FC 0.5
CC 1.0
pH 7.2
TA 180
Br 1
CH 250

I think I'm going to have to exchange some water and then start the SLAM process. Water is definitely clearing up. But need to sort out the air leak issue I thought I solved and still vacuum it. Still lots of junk on the bottom.

Thoughts?

Sounds like you're in the right track :)
I'd suggesting finding articles on how to drain a vinyl pool safely so the liner doesn't get moved out of place, it's going to need multiple small drains or a very detailed large drain :/

Did you run a diluted CYA test or was the sample somewhere between the bottom of the tester and the 100 mark? The test only goes reliably to 100. If it's higher than 100, it may be A LOT higher. The diluted test (with 50/50 pool water and tap water) will give you a much better ball park figure of where you're at.
