Easy Touch 4 question

It’s the newer style antenna. It comes with the intellicenter bundle without the protocol adapter. In the instructions it showed ways of installing for easytouch and/or intellicenter. He says he has the protocol adapter so he must have bought it together. I could be wrong but the rx/tx could be on the other side of board.

The Intellicenter does not use ScreenLogic or a protocol adapter.
True, the intellicenter came with this same antenna and a transceiver without a protocol adapter. The manual had instructions for setting it up for easytouch/intellicenter. He would need the protocol adapter which he said he had. I’m guessing the new antennas are backwards compatible.

There are three LEDs on the board in the upper right.

I think they are POWER, TX , and RX but they are not labeled.

You need to leave the case open when you connect the board to see what the LEDs are indicating.

The High Power Link Manual is at https://www.pentair.com/content/dam...-docs/high-power-wireless-link-kit-manual.pdf and atached to this post.

The RS-485 wiring follow the manual although it is backwards from most other Pentair RS-485 connections.

I thought I saw tiny little lights on the upper corner but nothing is lighting up.

Use a multimeter and check for 15V DC between the black and red wires.

If nothing is lighting up it indicates the board is not getting power from the RS-485 connection.

I do have a multimeter but have never checked anything with it hahaha. I do have an extra RS485 connector, should I switch it out and see if that works?
Give it a try and see what happens.

Checked power all throughout the easy touch panel and all power looks fine but several things aren't working. I will have a Pentair service provider come and see what the heck is going on and get it all fixed since the guy that installed all this is now saying "call Pentair" . Either something is set up wrong somewhere or I just got "lucky" with duds.

Thank you for your input on this awhile back Jim. I have the Easy Touch Single body 4 with SCG. The pump I bought (not realizing I messed up) is the Superflo VS. I bought Screen Logic but can't use as of now. You helped with some input on that on a separate thread as I was trouble shooting the outside antenna. That is another separate issue where there is power to the antenna but no power light or communication lights at all.

As of now my pump is hooked up to the panel but I have it switched over to control on the pump so I can use all three speeds during the day since it's not the Intelliflo. So am I able to keep the pump set to control on the pump and have the SCG operate just fine? I haven't started using the salt since I'm not at 30 days from new fill yet. After I switched the pump programming off the panel to the pump, my scg does not have any lights on. So the filter pump relay is for the pump and salt? Then I have the three Aux to use. Which Aux 1 is for two Globrites that have a transformer, Aux 2 is for another two Globrites that have another transformer. So I think I understand that I can use that last Aux3 to run a valve actuator for bubblers which I have not yet purchased, as of now the bubblers are on a manual valve.

Cag,

The way things should work is that your salt cell's Power center only get power when the EasyTouch's Pump/Filter relay is closed.. The Pump/Filter relay will only close when you are in the Pool mode or Spa mode.. I suspect that is why you have no lights on your salt cell...

Tell me more about your SuperFlo VS.. Is this an old pump? The newer ones all have RS-485 control and connect to the EasyTouch.

If you are going to use an actual Actuator that mounts to a Jandy style valve, you do not need a relay. Actuators have a three pin connector that connects to the main card in the EasyTouch. You can use the Aux 3 button on the main panel, but you are just wasting the relay. You can use a Feature Circuit to turn the bubbler on or off if you want.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok apparently I bought the older version 342001, I have a new Superflo VS not the VST :-/ Newbie error...

So I guess without buying a new pump, I can set this one up to have two speeds on the easy touch through two of the relays if I want to use it through the easy touch to have more than one speed? Is there a way to just operate the pump on the pump itself for the schedule but still operate the SCG on the ET pump/filter relay?

ok thank you for the clarification on the actuator :)

Cag,

Here is what I would do..

Normally, a VS pump gets constant AC power... In your case, I would wire your SuperFlo to the load side of the Pump/Filter relay. This means that the pump will turn on and off using the EasyTouch. Then you set the pump's internal program using the pump's control head.. You could set the pump to run at one speed or several speeds during the day.

As an example... The EasyTouch sends AC power to the pump so that it has power from 7 am until say 7 pm.. I'd set the pump's internal program to run 24/7 at whatever speeds you want.. As soon at the EasyTouch sends power to the pump it will start running the schedule. When the EasyTouch turns off the AC power the pump stops.. This will just keep repeating each day.

This would run your cell from 7 am until 7 pm..

Please let me know if this does not make sense.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Ok yes that makes sense and what I would want to do since I ended up with this pump set up. the guy that set it up for me only offered the option of running the pump on two relays to control a speed on each and seemed like a waste of a relay. At least I'll have one extra aux to maybe add something. And your recommendation then allows the salt to be on with the pump right? Because the way I have it now the salt is off and the pump isn't being controlled at all with the easy touch. I have a local technician coming out Friday to look at my globrite issue, two of them are not working and since I called it in a third light isn't working that is on a separate aux and transformer :(. and they said they would look at my external antenna issue as well so I think I'm going to talk to them about setting this stuff up for me.

NEC requires a GFCI CB for pool pumps.

Unless you have a GFCI CB on the feed circuit to the EasyTouch, you should insist that the pump CB be changed to meet code. A Pentair PA220GF or Siemans QF220AP should be used.

What is that black cable in the back left of the panel connected to the filter/pump relay connected to?

Those thin wires are not to code to be connected to a 20A CB.

How is that set up you suggest different than how it is now?
Cag,

The pump is not being powered by the thin wires.. Your pump is connected to constant AC power from the Breaker..

The thin wires are being used as an external control voltage.. Depending on which thin wires have the 120 Volts AC, tells the pump to run at a set speed. In your case you have two wires, so you can only have two speeds... If you had more relays, you could select more speeds.

Notice the Yellow and White wires on the Pump/Filter relay.. They are connected to the load side of the relay, so the Cell's power center only gets AC power when the relay is closed.. Which would be AUTO, Pool or Spa modes.

If you are happy with what you have, there is no reason to change it.

Thanks,

Jim R.
