Does cya go away on its own or just with loss of water?

It does. You will lose 5-10 ppm per month during the summer, primarily when your pool water temperature is above 85F. Other times, not so much.

Would there be a reason it goes up naturally? Mine has seemed to have gone up over the last month but I have not added any to the pool as of late.

CYA doesn't go up naturally. From your signature looks like you chlorinate using pucks. That's your source of CYA
