Ok I did it. I cleaned the DE filter, hosed out the filter housing. I connected the blower to the vacuum hose and put it in the skimmer. It was quite easy until I had to get to the deep end drain. I couldn't work the valves and hold the air hose into the skimmer at the same time. The air hose kept coming out as it wasn't threaded in and I guess the force of blowing bubbles in the deep end was too much and it kicked the hose out. No worries, I got my wife to hold the air hose into the skimmer as I created an "air lock" between my two main drain access points (shown as a red circle). She was so miserable! That final valve turn to create the air lock then forced the air out the returns, after plugging those, I did the cleaner line and finally the fountains. I logically went through every part of the system, blowing air until just barely a drip was coming out and then I sealed it and move on. I did leave the fountains and cleaner line open to each other but shut them off to the rest of the filter area.
I assume b/c I got all or most of the water out that I am fine. The only way water can get into the system is from the main drain but I assume it is low into the pipes at some sort of air pressure/water pressure equlibrium.
