Converting to chlorine from PermaSalt

They do make calhypo pucks but you must use a new dedicated floater/dispenser and they add calcium of which too much is a bad thing (scaling)
I suspect your intense overnight loss is due to everything left over from your stair fiasco & the huge losses will subside soon.
Be sure to do all the things

That amount is akin to adding 11ppm fc 10x’s or 5.5ppm 20x’s in your pool volume - not unusual for a slam if dosing 3-4x’s a day as recommended considering you began nearly 7 days ago.

The steps held you back some days - keep going! You’ll get there!
I just need to pass the OCLT

Rain should not have much impact on slam.
If you haven’t backwashed since “releasing” all the step gunk you may wanna give it a go.

Ok. Rain just started. Been several weeks without any.
So fresh numbers……

This morning at 5:30am
FC 8.5
CC under .5 barely registered

Just now at 4:30pm
FC 4.0 (using 10ml sample to save drops)
CC barely there. Not even worth a drop of R-0871.
PH 7.1
TA 110
CH 220
CYA 80. It was cloudy but I did the best I could. I even poured it back into the plastic bottle and dripped it back in. Did it inside and out side before rain started. If anything I think it may be between 80 and 70. This test is difficult for me to be satisfied with.

Need to elevate ph some

But now it’s storming. Shouldn’t last long. If it rains enough I can bypass to waste some water to help lower CYA. Didn’t catch it in time to lower water level before rain.

Lost right at 10pm FC overnight. 23ppm down to 13.5ppm. The CC (the 2nd part of Fas-Dpd test) reads the minimum at maybe one drop or no drops needed. Been doing that for over a week. CC have been at basically zero for a week.

Pool math said add 269oz 10% which is 2.1 gallons. Added 1.5 gals right at sun up so as not to fall short. We’ll see what happens. Pool level looks like no overnight rain. It cleared right before dark last night.

I did get about 7” of water out and refilled with residential water before running 1-1/2 hours to mix before adding chlorine then another 1-1/2 hours running to mix after dosing up. Pump on high. Filter backwashed prior to starting OCLT.

Anyways, that’s where I’m at.

I bought 15 gallons 10% at Home Depot. About as cheap as anywhere around me so far. Leslie’s is super high on 4 gal case even though it’s 12%
My wallet told me “thats it”. Lol.

Got a picture of your water now? Its acting like its filthy, or you have no CYA in the water, or its got a dirty cover on it at night, or some kind of odd testing error. Maybe post up a short video of the test process to rule out the last one.

See if your walmart has "pool essentials liquid chlorine," it may be cheaper...
They were out. But I will go to a hardware store in my little town. They had some of that brand. Which was nice that they had pool stuff.
By the way that’s where I got the bag of CYA first of June or so. I read the bag as .5 lbs but the decimal was actually part of Wt.5

So I used it thinking it’s as 1/2 pound and a full pound.
Geez.
I didn’t have any cya before this as permasalt only has a touch and it was o once weekly thing.

I went and looked at some pool store test results I had laying around from several weeks ago. 6 of them actually from three different stores before I started doing my own testing. And they all averaged together have CYA at about 68. Which is really close to what I’m getting here at home with the test.
The sun is out so I suppose I can do it again to be sure.

I put the 10ml water in a “washed with pool water” plastic measuring tube. Add two level scoops of R-0870 DPD Powder crystals. Swirl one thousand times to dissolve. lol.
Then when no crystals left I start adding drops and counting them while continuing to swirl around the vial. Writing down the number of drops that equal .5 each until it turns clear. Then when water turns clear I add 5 drops of R-0003 DPD Reagent #3 to the vial. Lately it barely turns any shade of pink. Extremely slight color change to pink that I’ve not added that drop because the water at that point is virtually clear meaning no CC.

If I keep doing this I’ll have to order more tests.

I’ve proof read this four times. And it mirrors the instruction sheet that came with the test.

It’s possible the cya test results are off and I know you guys don’t like pool store stuff but I threw those up just to show that I think my cya tests have been somewhat close.

My bad. I meant I added 2.5 instead of 2.1 first thing this morning.
