Construction in N. TX - Plaster Time

Filled at 2:30! If my meter is correct, that's 16k gallons, which is a little smaller than I expected.
Ok so I added the sequestrant and 5 gal of acid. Broke a sweat with the first brushing!

Oh how did I miss that?? Thanks for the heads up jet. Ok first test is in:
pH - ~6
FC - 0
CH - 125
TA - 0 - it turned red right off the bat. Is this correct?
CYA - 0

Couple questions - I'm using a nylon brush, is this sufficient? I heard a combo wire/nylon brush might be too abrasive (or just right, depending on the source).

Is there an accurate way to measure this low pH with the TF-1000? Do I even need to be that accurate for this acid wash period?

With it being such new plaster I would not use a wire brush. The nylon will do all that needs to be done-get the plaster dust up and out.

TA-?? That is a puzzle. I will have to do some thinking on that one.

I am not sure about how to read low PH. bdavis on Jamie's thread might have an idea. Maybe shoot him a PM to see.

Thanks Kim. Brian was helpful as always. Update for today, brushed twice, and ran tests.

pH - <6
FC - 0
CH - 175 (rising from 125 yesterday)
TA - 0 (still red right from the start)
CYA - 0
I see a little white dust brush up when brushing certain areas of the plaster, but overall the dust is minimal. I hope I'm doing some good as the CH is rising. I think that's what that means [emoji23] The plaster looks to be showing more quartz from yesterday. Hopefully only a few days more and the sparkle will come through and we can start to balance. My kids are DYING to get in.

Oh they're being tortured now. My daughter is the master negotiator, and the days conversations have been trying to get me to balance the pool by Sunday. With the way the plaster looks though, I think I'm going to let it sit for at least two more days.

It doesn't feel like I'm removing much at all. I can see a bit of quartz, but not nearly where I want to be.

Thanks! I told them it will melt their hair off, so they're steering clear [emoji23]
I also might have told some of the more rowdy neighbor kids we have an electric pool shock system for intruders. Allegedly.....

Good one! Hey, tell them that if you see pink on the CC test, that you know someone wee'd. They come ask me all the time, and at least it's some defense!

You are safe to swim when: pH is 7.2 to 7.8
FC is at or below shock level for your CYA
And you can see the bottom, for swimmer safety

You can always acid wash again if you choose to, so you could raise the pH with soda ash or borax, and let 'em swim :)

Thanks for the advice! I think we will start getting the pool balanced tonight. I can see some good quartz coming through, but not as much as I want. And maybe when the weather gets cold again we can acid wash. The water looks so good now! Almost no plaster dust. Finally got a TA of 10! Woo! Lol. The the CH is at 200.
