Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Gunite crew arrived nice and early. They were pumping at 7:15 [emoji16]

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

 You better be getting some "I am sorry" cookies out to your neighbors! LOL

Sweet! Will you be able to stick around while they work? They might have some ideas on a tweak or such you will want a say in.

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Ha! Yeah I'll just let the neighbors swim! I'm taking off from work, and they've already had a few good ideas. Adding a little step into the Baja shelf, which I didn't think of. The first truck is gone, so we should be complete with the third truck by noon.

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Beautiful Monday for a dirt hole! Guys came out around 7:30 and were finished by 12:30. Kept the kids home from school to experience the excavator at work.
Everything went well except the septic plumbing went right through the middle of the pool instead of around it.

I really like that you kept the kids home from school. This will be one of those fond memories they think back on. Even now, I don't think I would have been able to concentrate knowing someone was digging me a pool at home!

Woo! All finished with the gunite. Thanks to everyone who has helped out so far. Now I guess it's time to buy my TFsuper 5000 test kit and study up on pool school. Next step is tile, then coping/decking, then plaster.

What is the recommended wait time between gunite and plaster install? I know the concrete has to cure, but I'm not sure how long.

Make sure to ask any and all questions you might have no matter how small! We have all been where you are at one point.

That looks awesome. Do you know about bonding with your pool? aka watering it LOL You need to water is once a day to help it cure. Some small cracks my form but that is normal. The plaster will fill them in.

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Thanks Kim! Yes, I just started bonding this morning :D

Know how long should I let the shell cure before I add tile/plaster? The first portion of the build went very fast and smooth, and now I'm itching to get it done!

I personally waited 28 days per gunite company instructions. Also, if you are going to use glass tile it is often recommended to wait 28 days in tile instructions.

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Boulders came in today. Also did some dirt work with the help of a FWT (Friend With Tractor) [emoji23] My decking/coping guy still needs to bring sample colors so we can match with the tile. Wait wait wait!

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Quick question - I have a Pentair actuator, 263045, designed for 3-way valves. Can I connect these to a 2-way and set it for 90 degree motion only?

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Tell that fella he needs to find a way to use the tractor for that shovel work! LOL

Did they put your name on that flat stone? How hard was it to find THE one?

Kim:kim:

Ha! We were joking about how bad he was with the tractor. I'm not complaining though, it's better than renting or wheel barrow work for sure. And plus I need the exercise.

The rocks weren't too terribly hard to pick out. I thought it would be harder, but the right pallet just jumped out!

Re: Ready to Go on OB North Texas!

Yeah, my electrician told me that they wouldn't work. I showed him he installation instructions and he still didn't believe me [emoji23]
I even called the Pentair tech support and they concur.
These are actually cheaper than the 2-way actuators by $30! That's strange.

Re: Construction in N. TX - Tile/Coping Phase

Thanks Kim! I thought the testing would be a chore, but it brought me back to my college chem lab days lol.

Ok, we are ready to order tile. We changed from a blue to a brown. Looking through TFP and a bunch of pictures, we decided the brown look was going to be the best. We picked out Noble Mansion - Rich -NPMS665. We had out coping/decking guy make a few color samples, and we really liked the coping color, but didn't like the lighter deck color he made.

So now for the more significant dilemma........my wife doesn't like the salt finish concrete at all. So it's either try and convince her it's ok, or switch to a paver option. A friend has a tile called "Artistic Tile", which is supposed to be excellent in hot sun. We are leaning that way, but it will probably cost us a good chunk of change to go that route.

Re: Construction in N. TX - Tile/Coping Phase

That's a great question Kim :p:p:p I think diving into a woman's mind is best left to professionals! We just need to look at real examples and have her pick out what she likes. If all else fails, pick out what I like and apologize later!
