I have to replace a sand filter in my 10000 gallon simple chlorine outside pool. I am being offered an automated salt pool system ( quite expensive) What can I expect if I buy it?
Can you provide us more information on your pool type, volume, and equipment by filling out your signature? Also more specifics on the SWCG that is being proposed. Also what you mean by 'automated salt pool system'?
Welcome to TFP... a great place to learn all about saltwater pool maintenance.
A Saltwater Chlorine Generator (SWCG) will use the salt in the pool water, and a small amount of electricity, to make the chlorine that you need to sanitize your pool. It will mean you won't have to routinely add chlorine shock or tablets to your pool. The initial cost is high because, in a way, you are buying all the chlorine your pool will use, up front, instead of a few months at a time.
Welcome to TFP! TFP has a full contingent of experts and very experienced pool owners that are here to help. We can be much more effective for you when you provide more details as Marty requested.
There are a LOT of choices and many factors that drive the best salt solution for you. You should investigate them all before committing to be sure you get the best solution for your pool. If you make the right choice using TFP guidelines and input plus factor in your personal preferences you can expect the pool to be much easier to care for. In most cases you'll also find the water much more pleasant. The devil's in the details though. You can end up with way less than optimal performance. The service company's offering may be perfect but you may find otherwise after hearing from our experts that have nothing to sell you. They just want you to avoid learning the hard way. Refreshing, and hard to believe but it's what they do!
I look forward to your future posts and good luck to you!
