Hey All,

So my water was crystal clear yesterday and I have a pool party for my divorce party yesterday. Took the water to Leslies because that's normally what I do and I never have a problem. They told me my water needed some chlorine. I have a saltwater pool. When they did my test

Free chlorine .18
Total Chlorine .21
Ph 7.9
Total alkalinity 91
Calcium harness was 347
Cyanuric acid was 67
iron 0
copper .2
phosphates 0
salt 4600

it was clear. They told me to add 5 bags of Leslies powder plus for chlorine.

Now my pool is super cloudy and my pool party is Saturday. Any advice?

OH NO! Such bad timing for sure :( For right now make sure you pump/filter are running and keep them running 24/7 as we work to clear your pool up.

It is late in the game but for right now I would buy some liquid chlorine. You can find it Home Depot and Lowes. If you pool store had liquid chlorine in the yellow jugs then get it there if the price point is good. I would add one gallon now then one gallon tonight with another gallon in the morning. This is just to get you to the party.

Once you have the liquid chlorine you need to order your own test kit as seen here: Test Kits Compared SAY WHAT KIM???? Leslie will test my water for free....................yeah but is it really free if you walk out with your arms full and wallet empty?? We call that being "pool stored".

Here at TFP we will teach you how to care for you pool using stuff you can get from Walmart, Lowes, etc! How neat is that????

Most of us have been pool stored in the beginning. Some of us, like me, had our pools ruined by following the pool store advice :( My liner "cracked" from my ph and TA being so off for so long it became brittle even with water in it

What I think happened is you were on the brink of an algae outbreak. The powered shock pushed it over the edge and the pool clouded up with the dead algae. I am hoping the filter and liquid chlorine will at least get the pool clear enough to use for your party.

So here are your steps to KEEPING you pool clear once you get the party over with:
-Find TFP-DONE
-order a good test kit (we have videos and such to teach you how to use it)
-find a good source for liquid chlorine for emergencies like this.
-fill in your signature so we know what kind of pool you have as well as important facts like kind of filter, test kit, SWG, etc.
-Do some reading as seen here: Pool Care Basics here is a good one to help you understand the FC/CYA relationship: FC/CYA Levels
-Get your pool this clear: How Clear is TFP Clear?

Welcome to TFP! Give TFP a chance. I think you'll be pleased.

Great advice above. Only thing I can add is are you sure your SWCG is working properly, or set too low? Could the salt level be out of the recommended level for your generator?

The same thing happened to us yesterday! Told us to add acid and now it's wicked cloudy. I am getting advice on another thread, but very similar to your situation. So frustrating.
