Choosing a new filter

So after nearly ripping the tendons off my elbow 3 times this week attempting to use the locking ring on my Hayward cartridge filter, I've decided to burn it.

I have this system with a 1.5hp pump. Does anyone know a compatible filter for the pump? Or can I use any filter with that style pump? If so, does anyone have recommendations for type and make? Anything without the locking ring mechanism on the Haywards.

I have a 18 foot 4.5 foot depth above ground.

Any filter is "compatible." If you mean will be able to just have the fitting removed, slide in place, and reinstall the fitting, then not so much. That filter/pump combo on that mounting stand was designed for easy assembly. But, with the right plumbing, you can use a different filter.

Yeah, that's what I was hoping for. I've never done plumbing yet, but the flexible hoses I have may make that easier.

But thank you, at least I know there's not a special pump needed for sand or DE filters. I will explore a bit further.

Thanks again!
