Hey all, we just had our pool finished last week and are thrilled. We have three kids under 5 so opted for an automatic cover. During the build process the contractor mentioned the great thing about the cover is closing it up often for the kids safety, keeping it clean, pool chemistry, heat it easily, etc. When the service company came out to do our pool school, he mentioned to be careful with the cover, that if it’s closed and the chlorinator keeps running where it’s normally set, there’s nowhere for the chlorine to go and it will get to a “dangerous” level to swim in. He said to cut down or off the chlorinator if closing the cover. Just wanted to see if anyone here has more guidance on that and if it’s something we should be doing/concerned about? Thanks so much!

Welcome to the forum!
Can you provide us more detail on the pool equipment you have? Do you have an automation system? Do you have a SaltWater Chlorine Generator? What pump and filter do you have?
I suggest you read through Pool Care Basics - Trouble Free Pool and even look at a few of our videos TFP-TV - Trouble Free Pool

Hey! Yes we have a jandy pump and cartridge filter and jandy aqua pure salt water chlorinator! And yes I believe we have an automation system.

Great. Provide us the details. It is likely your automation system will adjust your SWCG output depending on if the auto cover is closed or open.

Jandy has various levels of automation systems. Can you get a model number / name off the box that was installed.
Your installer should set the system up so the SWCG is managed by the automation and changes output based on autocover position.

Out on the panel it says aqualink RS pure link and then found paperwork for iaqualink 3.0 web connect device. Does that help?

Yup, if your pool isn't getting sun because its covered yet with the SWG is still running day in and day out FC CAN build up more than you want.

My SWG is generously oversized (as we recommend) so I run my SWG on a very low setting which still provides enough FC but not too much.

I also open my cover routinely even when not swimming to allow any built up gasses disperse.

Testing at home helps you learn the ins and outs best of your pool and cover.
