I just saw on a Facebook page talking about doing a slam. The poster said it will destroy your cartridge filter and prepare to replace when finished with the slam. Surely this isn’t true?

It is not true. You'd be able to search many threads here with complaints if it were true. Search bar is quite handy.
They likely used flocculant which destroys any filter media. Sand and DE filters have a waste setting to bypass the filter but cartridges typically don't.
Keep all your questions/ searching here. There is too much junk info out there and someone with many followers will lend credibility they don't deserve.
