Can't manual to waste on recently acquired pool.

Hey folks: I made a video showing my issues here, but it's 7 mins long and I understand if you don't have 7 minutes in your day.

Warning: Casual Australian Frustrated Swearing in Video.

There are a few issues the pool is having, but number one is no waste function. I have used this exact style of filter before, on a pool much bigger than this, but I have never dealt with a three-way valve also being in the way.

If I set the valve to waste, over a minute or so the pump will completely empty of water and fill with air.

If I turn the pump on straight away after setting to waste, the pump works, water is circulating, but nothing is actually coming out of the waste pipe? Or at least what I consider the waste pipe in the systems I've worked with before.

There is what appears to be a three way valve before the pump on the system - these are foreign to me, but I eventually figured out what they were here and looked into them.... however mine is weird in that it doesn't have a fourth setting where all pipes are open. Whatever setting it is on (unless partial) it is closing one of the three pipes. I saw some videos where you have to loosen the top cap and lift the handle, that doesn't seem to be possible here.

I definitely don't mind calling out a professional to look at the pool, and in fact I did that but then the guy took the robot to "see if he could fix it" and then has ghosted my calls and messages since. Dude hasn't even sent me the invoice for the work done.... so uh, yeah. I'd like to be able to make sure I get the right kind of professional out and that I can give them all the info they need.

Got a couple of additional questions in the video, but they aren't as important as this one. I tried finding similar posts to this, but ones I found didn't seem relevant to my situation, or I don't know enough about what I'm doing to comprehend them.

Quick edit: The valve on top of the filter is really tough to get to move, significantly moreso than others of its type I've dealt with before. Unsure if this has anything to do with the issue, but wanted to mention it here as well as in the video.

Your video wont play but why not just vac to filter for now? The pool doesn’t look horrendous. You’ll just need to backwash sooner.
I assume you’re in the throes of the
SLAM Process ?
Lemme ring some other guys with similar equipment from your neck of the woods

Yep, video not playing. Maybe too much Aussie swearing for YT 😉.

Maybe just a few more photos so we can see the complete system around pump and filter, so we can try to make some sense of it.

About the "?" in the skimmer: That looks like an optional connection to the main drain at the bottom of the pool. In Australia, we usually don't have main drains, and these connections are not used.
