What is attached to the backwash port? Is the MPV broken at the stem? Is there a valve in the backwash line? Is that line a hose with a kink or restriction of some kind? If you remove the plumbing from the backwash port does water spray out when the valve is in that position and the pump running? When the valve is put in the waste position and the pump on does water come out into the backwash line?
Backwash port as in the discharge line? Hard plumbed PVC. Nothing broken. I can’t remove the plumbing nor would I would the pump running lol
It is - it can only be connected one way as it is hard plumbed in.
If you removed the MPV to clean the sand, that line should be able to be disconnected. I also never glue pipes in the backwash line, no need as a little leak won't harm anything and the water gets thrown away anyway.
Everything was hard plumbed when we bought the house so I’m leaving well enough alone until I can no longer. The pump only has one speed and has worked just fine for all settings until the last couple days.

We are talking about the same pool. I can pull the MPV off the top of the filter but it is hard plumbed in so it can’t be removed completely - it is set to the side still attached to the plumbing so you can access inside the filter tank.
