C-19 Vaccine-I got one

Just saw this thread and glad to see so many have either gotten the vaccine or are wanting it. My wife and I finished our series of the Pfizer vaccine in January and didn't have any side effects besides a sore arm and a mild headache the day after the second dose. My background is in infectious disease epidemiology and it's exciting to see vaccines produced that have been shown to be so effective!

What an adventure !! I went to the university hospital which has 5 or so hospitals at the ‘campus’. And also the university. I got there plenty early and was rewarded a wild goose chase for my efforts. When I told them out front of my time (45 min early) they sent me back out and around and down a long single file winding driveway that wasted most of my time. When all was said and done I came out a mere 50 feet from the first person who turned me away. I was laughing my keister off and commended the 2nd guard lady for keeping me busy and out of the way.

Then it was parking and into the building with 100s of others. Each of the 3 checkpoints took only a few minutes with up to 20 spots processing us at each one. Finally but only 15 mins in, there were 20 or so booths set up and BOOM, done. There was a large room set up for everyone to self time their 15 minute wait and I go back on the 10th.

There were so many feels going on while waiting. Scared spitless, yet happy it was a means to an end. Worried about the unknowns yet proud to be doing my part as an American. More scared spitless about the mass shot factory I was in the middle of (I know some folks who had all their paperwork/auths and still got turned away at one of the checkpoints).

But it worked, way better/faster than it appeared it would, And I’m halfway there now.

Mine was at one of the MD mass vax sites that is drive-thru. At a stadium. Perfect setup, though obviously doesn’t easily satisfy those clientele with no vehicle in an urban environment. It worked flawlessly. Many MD National Guard working the site, and medical folks giving shots. Not sure what I might have said in an earlier post. Maybe the shot affects memory.

Our area in College Station/Bryan has limited vaccines. They did open up the age groups to 50+ whether you have a condition or not. The problem is you have to have an appointment and those are made on Friday at 10AM thru the Hub site. It's almost impossible to book an appointment. Believe me, I've been trying!

I got my 1st dose of moderna vaccine this past tuesday (March 16). I'm in the SF bay area. My county had a way to register so you're notified when eligble. i registered and got notified monday afternoon. All county run vaccine sites was fully booked when i came online so no appointment for me. Later that night i realized i can check my healthcare providers app, and they also made me available. i got an appointment for the next day about 1.5hr drive away from where i live (all appointments nearby was weeks out).

I came to the site, looked like a community center that had been converted. i gave my drivers licence to a lady up front, she confirmed my appointment, asked me about allergies and gave me an covid vaccine record booklet and an information flyer. then i followed blue arrows to a doorway where i had to wait for 15-30 seconds. i nurce waived me over to her station, took my covid vaccine record and asked me about my name and if i had allergies. by the time i finished my sentence the needle was in my arm and i was injected. she told me to follow green arrows and take a seat. when the clock hits the time she had written on the record i could leave.

I took my seat, another nurse came and took my vaccine record. she came back a few minutes later and told me she had booked my second shot for me, and its in the record. I waited 10 more minutes an i was out and on my way home.

This was by far the most efficient medical appointment i've done in my life. Super professional people, the process worked amazing. I'm just glad i live in one of the great countries in the world. I talked to my sisters who live in europe (i was born in europe) and they have vaccinated 6% of the population but are having chronic shortages of vaccine. She couldn't believe that we already hit 20% vaccinated here and how efficient the experience has been.

I am so hopeful we are about to end this scourge!

Two of my 3 kids have had their 2nd doses, Moderna, for over a month and they both got the chills and body aches for a day after the second dose along with the sore arm. The wife and I just received our 2nd dose of Moderna a week ago and we only had arm soreness after each dose. At the same time that the wife and I got our vaccines, almost everyone on my side of the family got theirs also. None of us had anything other than a sore arm.

I had slight soreness last night and today. Had worse soreness after backfilling pool!

I got the Pfizer vaccine. 2nd dose on 4/12.

Has anyone been able to pick the vaccine they want, or is it still just luck of the draw?

I'm hoping to get the single dose j&j shot, but the doctor says we still have natural immunity until at least June so I can be patient for a few more months.

I can pick my vaccine since I am getting the shot at one of Pfizer's manufacturing plants. In general, it would be nice to pick since my older daughter has a blood condition where she should have the J&J.

Not around here, there are some rumors on social media about where to go for x, y or z shot, but it seems like most places are using various kinds of shots at different times. It does seem like you are more likely to get Moderna or J&J at a smaller pharmacy or urgent care type of place, and Pfizer at a hospital or larger vaccination site, I'm assuming due to the handling requirements of Pfizer.

As of Feb 25th they allowed it to be stored at -15F to -25F for up to 2 weeks which is the common temps for pharmaceutical storage and widely available. It can also be refrigerated for up to 5 days now.

Either leaves plenty of time to get it to the small guys for use. CVS/Walgreens for example would have the freezers to buy the full 2 weeks before use.
