By Owner in Phoenix: started up!!

FWIW, my builder said they put in blanks for the pool lights when they do plaster, and only pull the actual lights just before they fill, since they've had too many instances of the lenses getting scratched up. You may want to confirm that they actually intend to pull beforehand.

Mine said they take them out and put on the coping, then return them and ensure a good seal around. Because they own the pebble warranty I think they want to be the ones who set all the interior items.

Honestly, I don't care as long as our Momday startup is unimpeded... :)

So pebble was done today super fast, worked 5 am to 9:30 am. The electrician showed up and pulled two lights, but the pebble guys got stuff in the spa light area deep in, so they need to come back tomorrow with a tool so they can pull the spa light.

Tomorrow they will be doing an acid wash.

Now, our startup is Monday and I am trying to understand how quickly until we can actually swim. I don't want a "hot start" but I don't know what that really means. What chemicals they could add would cause that?

From the startup company options:

Chlorine Tablets | $4.88 Per Tablet
● Muriatic Acid | $6.99 Per Quart
● Liquid Chlorine | $11.99 Per Gallon
● Cyanuric Acid | $88.00 Per 6 lbs. Note: 6 lbs will be implemented in every pool unless noted otherwise by the builder.

How can I ensure they don't do a hot start, which would take longer to be swim ready? Since we are doing an acid wash we shouldn't need that, right?

So exciting!
I don’t know what a hot start is but that’s pricey for CYA. A 4lb bag at Lowe’s is $28. They are most likely going to try to just dump it in the skimmer, our guy did. Try to get them to let you put it in a sock, or rather 2 socks, and put them in the skimmer. It’s a better way to do it. And you don’t want the tabs. They will add more CYA. If they toss it in the pool, take it out after they leave and save them for just in case.

Here is our link to start up:

What you are wanting is the "Traditional Start up". The acid start up if a good one but it does keep you out of the pool longer.

There is also start ups put out by each manufactures of plaster. You can do a search to find them if you want.

Awesome info, as always. We can provide our own chemicals, that's if we go through them. So I will hit up Lowes for sure.

Not sure how much liquid chlorine I should get though, because I'm sure I can find that cheaper too.

So from what I'm reading the Muriatic Acid dump into water is a hot start. But since we are doing an acid wash first then we shouldn't do a hot start. Both are the same thing, peeling back the layers on top, exposing aggregate. So we will make sure our startup team does not do that since we acid washed.

There is so much to learn at every step!

Why in socks?

Filling with water. The color is going to be perfect. Can't wait.

Unfortunately our spa light is stuck and we need to have the electrician come in a couple of hours to saw out something that got stuck inside the pipe so he can finish the pull and then we can fill the spa. We are keeping the walls damp for now.

We finished the fill last night. Electrician back today to get the spa light finished so we can fill that quickly.

Took about 12 hours to fill up. Wild.

That water already looks beautiful!
We went with a Cancun theme. Sandy Beach (travertine) to small water over sand (reef step) to the ocean water (pool proper). Add in the blues with a flair of some downtown areas, and the green of the roads to chichen itza, we kind of replicate our 5th anniversary vacation every day now. ;)
