Bought a home with a FROG pool - need help 🙃

That sand in the pool might be from the few particles that are smaller than the laterals. It is typical, with new sand, to run a long backwash to remove them.

Carry on, robot should get them.

I would do a long backwash to get any other small particles out.

If you get them all up, and they return, and continue to return for a few days, report back.

Move on for now.

There is no "dust" left. A backwash or two would have removed any "dust."

Who knows what else is in there. To be safe, I'd dispose of it.

Update:

We got the main drain covers off today and cleaned the pipes and basin. There was definitely algae on the walls of the pipes.

I wasn’t able to re-dose/test as often as I’d have liked today because we had the pool off longer than planned to clean the drains (long story short had to call in more backup lol)

I added a total of 2.2 gals today. Just did tonight’s test for OCLT and am at 28FC. Let’s see 🙏🏻

P.s. - several of us got in and swam today. Felt totally fine on the skin even at these chlorine levels, just definitely smelled like chlorine lol

smelled like chlorine lol
That smell is chloramines (CC), not the amount of chlorine in the pool. The CC is created by the chlorine oxidizing organics and biological contaminates. The slam is doing its job.

That is why most public pools smell like chlorine, not because it has high chlorine content...

Thanks for this link. FC remained at 28 during OCLT. My CC has remained at 0.5. Attaching some photos to this post. The water looks clear to me, but there’s still some “debris” collecting along some of the seams of the liner. This is the stuff that the pool guy was telling me I wouldn’t be able to get up without a manual vac

algae is green (alive, I don't think you have it), dead is usually a gray color and instantly "poofs" into nothing. Dirt will also poof, but you can "usuall" see the dirt suspended (if you have goggles and are right there).

It is so hard to tell.

Is there any of this stuff on the steps? If you have stuff collecting like that, usually dead algae. Slam mean clear, no debris. Did you have winds? Is there any of it on the steps? The indentations on the steps would have dirt too, if it was dirt.

My assessment is dead algae, slam on.

Do you have a light? Did you clean behind it?
Did you remove the ladder and clean inside the ladder?
Did you check the weir doors for algae?

This is a brown/orangeish color. It's the same stuff that accumulates in the seams/steps every night since we moved in. I brush it away in the morning and by the next day it's settled in the same places. When you brush, it "poofs" into a cloud but it's definitely a brownish cloud. I will say, this morning is significantly less settled in those places than normal.

Yes, it's always on the steps too. I'd take another picture, but the rain started up again and you can''t see anything.
Did you have winds?
We have had storms on and off for the past week. Yesterday it was pretty crazy flood/wind for about an hour
Do you have a light? Did you clean behind it?
Yes, I have two colorlogic lights, no I haven't cleaned behind them.
Did you remove the ladder and clean inside the ladder?
No - There was algae all over the ladder though last week that I brushed off without removing the ladder. The person I bought the house from said something about having a leak last year that was from the ladder that she had the pool co fix, so I was hesitant to mess with taking it off. Am I overthinking this?
Did you check the weir doors for algae?
Yes, they have been cleaned.

Hard to tell. If significantly less, my brain says algae. But brown/orangish throws me. Do you have brown/orange soil around you?

Are there rubber bumpers on the ladder?

The rain stopped long enough to get these pics of the steps. I’d say the amount on the steps is typical but the amount along the seams is significantly less.. To me the color is a bit lighter than the soil in our yard. Our soil is a very dark brown. Also attaching pics of the ladder image.jpgimage.jpgIMG_3720.jpeg

Yeah, I'd say that is dirt.

I'd take the ladder out, take the bumpers off and clean inside the tubes. I used this brush. Put a piece of tape on the ladders at the waterline. You need to clean the tubes at least up to about 6" above that piece of tape, inside.

Slam one more day for good measure and move on.

Congrats!

So, I went to town to get more chlorine. Back at home now looking at my R-0871 solution, it would surprise me if I have more than 2 tests left at SLAM levels. Going to order some more right now, but as far as finishing the SLAM is concerned, how do you think I should proceed?

What is your CYA?

If your CYA is at least 30, add 5ppm of chlorine each day after you run out of reagent. When the reagent arrives, continue the slam.

Might consider this:SLAM Option
