Bought a foreclosure that included a 33,000 gallon, p.i.t.a., frog hatchery

Hi Mike, patience is probably key now. but brush every surface and next day do a slow steady vacuum of the bottom.
one trick I did when mine was almost black from leaves one year. I left the vacuum at the low level floor for a day to help
clear it until I could see the shallow end floor.

Slam is going well, just taking a long time to clear out the fine particles at this point. I'm able to see the shallow end and things are looking up. I do, however have an issue with my liner. In one corner the liner was pulled away from the groove and is sagging about 3 to 4 inches below. I know you can stretch a liner minimally but I think it's quite a bit out of reach by now. I'll get some pics up when I get home but was just wondering if there is a chance to save it or a patch of some sort that I can apply to keep the water and debris out and give me a little more time before I need to replace the liner

This was last week after I brushed. I can see the dead algae on the bottom now so I'll probably be vacuuming tonight to get rid of that. Got a new pressure gauge but haven't used d.e. yet.

Here is where I stand as of now, getting there! Didn't get a chance to vacuum last night but definitely this weekend at the latest. It's gonna be h.e. double hockey sticks hot here this weekend so I'm thinking about getting in there to do my vacuuming and get a feel of what condition the liner is in. I passed oclt two nights in a row so I let my FC drift down to target maintenance level so I could do a full water test.
Fc: 5
Cc: less than .5
Ph: 7.4
Ta: 110
CYA: 35
The cya shocked me a bit so I tested twice to the same results and I was thrilled. (Thanks for all the free rain water mother nature!) I then brought Fc back up to shock level and brushed. Just wanted to make sure there wasn't an underlying chemical issue that I wasn't seeing.
Anyone have any thoughts on the liner? I've stretched it about an inch without any heat, but I really don't think it's going to make it all the way back up there. Would I be better off with one of those patch systems for a temporary fix?

Do you have a brush? If so, give that thing a good brush down, especially those steps. That's my Saturday morning routine. Brush every inch starting from the top to the bottom of the deep end. Followed by a slow vacuum of the slopes and then the bottom of the shallow end, down the slope and finally the deep end. Turn your jets down so they don't disturb the surface of the water and you can see much better. And go SLOW with the vacuum!

Yes, I have a brush. That picture was taken before I brushed so I could show clairity. The steps are stained and just laugh at the brush when I hit them, I'm planning on getting in there and scrubbing them down with a hand brush this weekend to see if I can get some of the staining off. My jets are pointing to the bottom already to try and keep the water moving underneath and let the skimmer work on the top. I plan on vacuuming this weekend nice and slow, I had kinda hoped aqua Bob (aquabot) would take care of some of the dead algae for me but he just spits it right back out.

My wife swears by those things, I work with my hands all day and when I come in the house I get my "grubby fingerprints" on the door and it takes them right off. I'll have to steal one of her old ones and give it a try.

That's all dead algae in there, I wanted to make sure I had no issues with unbalanced chemicals so I did an oclt to make sure everything was dead and not consuming chlorine, then let my FC drift down so I could get accurate results with my other tests. I then brought my FC back up once I was confident that there was no other issues keeping me from getting the water clear. Just been a long road to clear water and wanted to make sure I wasn't missing something

Mike that color is just what we are looking for! You are doing an awesome job and really seem to know what to do. SWEET!

I am too lazy to go back through your thread so have you opened your filter to make sure it is good to go? Have we talked about adding DE to your sand? I am going to share two links with you just in case I have not done so already.

Deep Cleaning a Sand Filter

Pool School - Add DE to a Sand Filter

Keep taking pics of the pool but shift so that you are looking down at the steps. That way we can watch it clear by being about to watch the steps show up.

Filter is in good shape, I changed the sand on pool store advice at the beginning of the season. We talked about d.e. I just needed to replace my pressure gauge, and I have replaced it now but I can't seem to find d.e. anywhere that isn't going to require me to buy 25lbs minimum. I'm strongly considering it at this point though because I just vacuumed the shallow end and dropped about 6 inches on my water level, which I'm not too thrilled with because my hose only adds about an inch an hour.

When you stretched the liner how close did you get to the coping?

When I opened this spring I found a 6 foot section of the liner detached. I wasn't able to get it back into place then, so I just used some clear duct tape to hold it up in place. Once the pool warmed up, and on a sunny day (direct sunlight on the detached section), I was able to get it back into place.

yeah the only size I was able to find was the big box. Do you know anyone with a pool that might have a box they could give you some out of? It is a shame they don't sell it in smaller amounts for us sand filter users.

It's almost 2 to 3 inches away from the groove when I stretch it without heat, I'm afraid that if I do try and heat it with hot water that it'll tear below the water line where the hot water stops contact with the liner. Kim, I don't know anyone with a d.e. filter, unfortunately. There were a few places that had small bags in stock at the beginning of the season, but apparently they ran out and never restocked. It is pretty sad that they don't readily have it available with sand filter folks in mind.
