At each of those points there should have been a double strap one from each direction. For some reason they designed it having only one. If you follow sort of the green line and put a anchor, it'll almost accomplish what a double strap would have done just using one point.

The straps are an extension of the webbing. They are not added on after the fact. The cover would not be safe if the straps were not aligned with the webbing.

A corner where two straps anchor the cover in two directions.
If there were straps on the red lines they would form double straps on that point.
As much as possible, every webbing should have a strap at both ends as an extension of the webbing.

Thank you everyone. I've contacted the pool store who will be following up with the manufacturer. They thought it was odd that they weren't contacted about any design changes. Will keep you posted.
