Blank slate/Pool build in Maryland

Ugh! You would think at the end of June we would be past watching the 10 day forecast for rain! It's usually hot and sunny everyday by this point. I feel so bad for you.

Let's just hope that this only pushes things by one (business) day. Monday-Fri look pretty good next week. My fingers are crossed for you!

Thanks. Monday is our rain date but we will be out of town from Tuesday to Friday. It was suggested that we be around when they do the plaster so that we can make sure it's the color we were expecting but of course neither of us can be there on Monday.

I was hoping to get it in tomorrow so I would at least have three good days of brushing before we left. The pool builder agreed to do one brushing while we're gone so even if we can't get anyone else over to do the second brushing, at least Tuesday - Thursday would have one brushing. Friday evening I'd be home to handle the second brushing.

This really is about the worst timing possible for us to have this finished.

Looks like we finally had a stroke a luck (...or a subcontractor who really doesn't want to come back) and there was a break in the rain. They decided to cover the pool "just to be safe" and plaster will go in today. I can't believe this is finally happening.

There is some wind today too so I'm not sure how long this plastic cover is going to last.

The pool builder stopped by and helped me pick the plaster color. The plaster company hadn't ever used Diamond Brite as a tint instead of dye and he was not too keen on letting them learn on our pool, and we were in agreement there! We ended up going with a mediumish lightish gray, slightly darker than "battleship gray."

The builder also said the other pool who was going to get done today after us got bumped to Monday because it is raining at a pretty good clip now. I'm glad they decided to cover it.

Yes they are. I think they are already done pumping in plaster too.

I can't see what it looks like obviously but I'm a little worried we went too dark from what I can see through the opaque plastic. I had him make it darker twice and the tint just seemed to be darker a small percentage each time. We don't want it too dark, we're just aiming for a nice water color.

It is pouring now and they've just finished. They cut a hole in the plastic in the deep end but it is sagging from the rain in the shallow end and laying on the tanning ledge. I hope this is not an issue, the water isn't coming until 2:30.

Here are the first two samples from when I was picking the color. Top was the first sample, bottom is the second. I had him go a little darker than the second.

gee that was so fast! I suspect that it won't dry quite that dark. I still think it's going to great, don't fret!

Out of curiosity, who did you end up getting your water from? I have a list of people to call but would be great to narrow it down.

The pool builder is supplying the water so I am not sure who he is getting it from. In the past we've found that the entire cost is based on how close you are to them so I would think the closest one to you would be the best.

I stand corrected; the water is here now. I walked out there (and still got soaked, even with an umbrella) and I don't think it's too dark, but we'll see. Everything we've had so far seemed to dry lighter so I think you're right, this will too.

Lift that cover and take some pics! The plaster dries very quickly my hoses were turned on immediately following the completion of the plaster (and remained on for 2 days).

Two water trucks have come and gone, their pump hose is still out so I am expecting at least one more.

Pics coming shortly now that I'm off of this conference call.

Edit-Picture of the water in there so far. I'll pull that cover off when the next truck gets here, I don't want to mess anything up and I'm not sure when it will be here. I'm assuming they didn't want streaking from the rain and that's why they left it on. We have another couple of feet of water to go.

Yes, my hose has been in there and on since the plaster company left.

Looks like we've had about 22,000 gallons or so in so far--two 8,000 gallon trucks and one 6,000 gallon truck. They then used another 6,000 gallon truck for about 5 minutes to top it off.

It's full!!!!!!! I thought this day would never come. 67 degrees (in late June!?!?!) and raining, but we finally have a pool.

The color has changed a little already and it varies based on the clouds in the sky. We expect it to get a little bit light but we are very happy with the color. It is lighter in person.

 You did it! You really DO have a pool AND it is a pretty one!!!

Now go out there and give it a brushing! Remember there might be a hit of green in the beginning. The color will change as the plaster cures and the water gets balanced. Man this has worked out for the best!!!!
