Another Pool Build in Cypress, TX

I'm so pleased they finally came! Love the sparkly tiles & initials in your outdoor shower. Rest up for a bit & recover yourself, sounds like it has been a bit full-on today. Oh & well done sorting out your planting with the landscaper person. Looking forward to seeing your photos <<excited>>

Hurry up and show that smurf blue pebble!

You're going to have to go to Ummgood for the Smurf Blue pebble! I chickened out..... If you'll remember (it seems like ages ago) you told me to go with Blue Granite. I think others did, too, but I kept remembering what you said. Something like, "I promise you won't hate Blue Granite, and you might just love it." That really stuck with me. And of course, everyone else's encouragement added to it. I love how it looks now. So if it still looks good with water in it, I'll be oh so happy!

I'm such a moderate in all ways. I sit on the fence better than anyone. So it makes sense I go with the majority for it seems, Blue Granite is the favorite. Nick didn't like the black speckles, and I wasn't crazy about them either. But as time went by, I began to see them as a more natural look from most of the streams, rivers, and lakes I've been to. They all seemed to have a mixed sand.

So now I can't wait!!! Acid wash tomorrow and then water! I'm preparing for green water. Thank goodness for this site - I know that will be temporary!

A HUGE thank you to everybody for cheering me on. I don't think I'm going to be able to reply to each of you. I will if I can. I hope ya'll know how much I appreciate each one of you and your time you have shared with me. The gift of time really is the most precious!

I still haven't taken a break yet, but I'm eager to get some of these pictures posted. I had to go through the 80 something and delete about half. I'll give you guys the highlights. Later this evening when it's cooler, I'll take the final pictures for today. I haven't had a chance to take good pictures of the pool since the crew left. I didn't expect to jump right into landscaping, literally before the plaster crew left. Not complaining - just makes for a wild and crazy day!

These are the process pictures of the pebble plaster. I don't know how many of you are interested - probably been posted a lot before. I'm posting anyway....

They had only been here a few minutes, and they already had everything covered. Amazing how efficiently they worked!

The next two are of the trucks - not any interest to ya'll, but posting since I'm using this as our journal.

And finally, here is Khan - not the best picture. I was too timid to ask for a better snapshot. And later as the sun rose higher, he wore his hat. When they were packing up, he passed me, slowed down and thanked me for the Gatorade. He seemed to really like that. He ALMOST smiled. I think for him, it must have been a really good smile. I told him I noticed he was in charge of plastering my spa. He grinned a little bigger and said it's a beautiful pool. We shook hands, and I told him thank you. I guess the bottom line is - we're both shy....

More to come.....
Suz.

Khan is such a monolith that the light bends around him as it passes. He is a celestial body. That's why you cannot capture a clear picture.
All hail the mighty Khan !
Pebble applicator to the gods.

At least you didn't incur the Wrath of Khan. ;). You did say you pool changed from the Klingon Battle Cruiser to the Starship Enterprise! Just keeping the theme. ;)

So exciting!!! Can't wait to see more! Khan looks like he came directly from Central Casting for a James Bond movie ...

Amy - wrong movie! :D

Ya'll are so funny!!! Khan would play well in any adventure type movie! He was like the first person I saw coming out the back door trying to get my eyes open. He grumbled at me about my car. I thought he wanted to know if I wanted to move it (but their pick-up was already blocking my car). I said no, that was ok. He then almost growled at me. He wanted in the garage to plug in something. We try to put Killer in the garage each night, so he won't get into as many fights. I knew Killer would want out. But he took one look at Khan and ran back under the car. Honest! So then I guess Kahn shut the door after he plugged in whatever, and I didn't notice. About 9am, Nick opened the garage door and Killer went tearing to the far back corner of the yard to escape hatch. Now, Killer you must understand, does not in any way live up to his name. In fact, he enjoys nothing better than to lie on a porch in the shade and watch the squirrels and birds taunt him. He doesn't move a muscle. And we've never seen him run. Maybe a slow trot at best where his stomach hangs down and sways back and forth. This morning he was a streak, a flash across the yard. I'm surprised he didn't fly across the pool. But I felt the same way when I first saw Kahn.

Here are a few more pictures from this morning.

This is the foreman spraying on the pebble plaster mix. He was the only one I saw doing that job. You can see the huge difference between where the pebble has been sprayed and not with just the gunite still showing.

The foreman spraying a second coat (I think).

I like this shot.... The big guy with a cowboy hat came for about an hour in the middle. He seemed to be a 'bigger' boss. I noticed the foreman didn't smile as much then. This big guy stood around usually with his hands on his hips or on the phone. He seemed really interested in the guy working on the 'Suz' or pony step of the deep end bench. He was working on the Shell Beach trim. I thought it was cool how the big guy was so involved with the guys. You can see he's pointing to one specific spot that had his attention. He held it there until the worker did whatever big guy wanted him to do.

Also in this photo I want to point out all the wires and cables they set up going across the pool. I'm sure it's already been in pictures, but I didn't pay attention. They hang all their different equipment with tubing or cords from those cables/wires. It reminded me of dentists' offices (more in the old days) where they hooked their evil drilling tools above on bars or lines.

In this step they are spraying with water while another guy has like a leaf blower helping to blow the water off as the guy sprays. I'm not sure, but when I told our PB that's what they were doing, he said cool, because that meant they were already to the stage of exposing the granite. So spraying off the excess plaster and blowing it off to the lower part of the pool. Down in the deep end is where they have a big tube which pulls up this excess plaster or slurry and dumps it up into the slurry box. (Again, doesn't this remind you of a dental procedure - the hygienist sprays water and at the same time vacuums up the water with another tool???? amazing) They built that box when they first arrived, and will remove it tomorrow.

One of my old teacher buddies is on her way over, so I'll post more later. Feel free to skip all of this if it's not interesting to you....

Congrats! I do remember our blue granite conversation. If you don't love it send it on up to me. :)

Yeah, the green water will make you wonder about your tap water for a while. But, it will be clear and amazing in no time!
