My thoughts on the matter are always a resounding *no* for pools.

However, they are pretty cheap and I always say it’s WAY cheaper than going to the Dr if it helps you sleep better.

As a dead weight to hold the skimmer basket down ... SURE, no worries. I use a big rock but if you want to get all fancy and use a chunk of zinc, no harm.

As some kind of mystical electrochemical anode that the sales brochures will promise you that your pool will never turn in a giant heaping pile of rust and corrosion .... :laughblue:ummm that would be a NO, NOPE, NEGATIVE.

The idea that some tiny slug of zinc attached to the pools bonding wire and corroding away, either inside our outside the pool, will somehow magically prevent any rust from occurring is a laughable claim at best. But, because the manufacturers of said zinc blob can point to something that looks like it's "sciency and technical", then it's the perfect marketing tool. The fact is, a sacrificial anode has to be properly designed in both its mass, electrical connections, and distribution around the body it is protecting to even have a chance of preventing corrosion. Anything less than that is nothing more than a placebo. Will the zinc metal dissolve over time, sure it will .... does that mean it is actually protecting anything in the pool, highly unlikely.

But, as @Newdude said, if it helps you sleep better at night, then by all means go ahead...
