Hi! We just bought a Coleman pool this summer for the kids and everything was going smooth until we went out of town for a week. I came back to a black swamp that I was afraid the Loch Ness monster was going to jump out of it when I was brushing it. I know nothing about pools and probably did so many things wrong, but I felt like I was making some progress until today.

I started a few days ago by doing a double dose of shock. That didn’t seem to do much, so I read that the shock isn’t effective if the other levels are low, so I tested it and added an alkalinity booster. After that I bought the hth green to blue advanced shock system. I read super mixed reviews on it, but I figured what do I have to lose. I did that and it seemed to help tremendously. I was actually able to see down to the bottom of the pool underneath this layer of scum on the top of the pool. Well, it ended up raining all day, but that almost seemed to help because all that gunk on top settled to the bottom. Today, I started vacuuming, but I only have a small robot vacuum right now. I let it do what it could which seemed to help a lot but it was also stirring up so much making the water hard to see the bottom again. Well, good ole’ Google convinced me I should go scrub all the walls and stir it up even more and run the filter. Was that the right idea? Now it’s icky and I can’t see the bottom again. Should I throw another pouch of shock in there? I’ve attached some photos for reference. The last one is what it looks like right now.

Go easy on me, we just got this a few months ago and it was perfect until left unattended for a week in the NC heat and rain 😭😭

Are you on cheap municipal water or a well ? Draining a smaller pool is always quickest and easiest path, and usually cheaper also.

Ahem. Please excuse my terrible manners. Welcome to TFP !!!
