Aiper Scuba S1 Review

That is only a decision you can make. Will it make your pool cleaner, yes. Is your pool clean enough already, that is your call.

We do not push any pool products or solutions here (other than proper testing). We provide you data and facts. You decide on the value.
Yeah I totally get not pushing products, it was more of a question for people with pool cages and if they used/needed one. Truly only looking for real world experiences.

Thanks!

I have an outdoor pool with an in floor cleaner and don't need to use my robot more than 1-2 times a week. I am with Kato and would not manually vacuum a pool ever again. In fact, I barely vacuumed my pool to begin with which is why I got the robot to begin with. Figured that 1-2x a week was better than my not manually vacuuming period.

In my quest to become the laziest pool owner in the world, I use the TFP methodology for pool care, I had an in-floor cleaner installed, and I bought a robot vacuum to brush the walls for me. So far it is working out. Just need to find something to take care of the slight buildup I get on my edge tiles around my scuppers and then I wouldn't even need to go out there!

I ran the Pro on auto yesterday. It worked it's way around my pool 1.5 times, then started on the floor. I usually just run it on floor. It made it's way up to the coping without issue even in the deep end. It had trouble at the benches and at the stairs. I was in the pool watching, so I helped it through those parts. It also got stuck on the wall on one of the screw in things that replace the plug when you open the pool. (I don't know what it's called)

A couple days ago I ran it on floor and it got stuck in a loop in the deep end for about 20 minutes. It figured it's way out and the pool was clean when it finished.

First good test of my Scuba S1 and Surfer S1 duo. A dust storm, first of this year's summer monsoon season, just blew through my neighborhood a little while ago here in Phoenix. Dust storms (aka haboobs) always leave behind a mess in my swimming pool. Leaves and other debris floating on the surface, the bottom and walls covered in a layer of silt. Threw in some pool shock and let the Scuba and Surfer get to work. Expecting to wake up to a sparkling clean pool in the morning.

I have the Scuba S-1 but the wait time for the Surfer was a month back in late April so I went with the Betta SE Plus on Amazon and had it in 2 days. Nit sure which one I like “betta” but the S-1 runs every other day for 3 hours while the Betta runs 24x7. Had a huge windstorm yesterday that lasted over 8 hours and leaves, flowers, pine needles, etc coated my surface all day long. I had to empty the filter basket of the Betta 5 times as it was chock full. That machine saved me several hours of hand skimming which I would have had to do last year, and no sore shoulders this year. It took me 38 years as a pool owner to just sit back and watch the leaves fall and not have to do anything.
And the S-1 got a great workout as a good amount of the smaller debris ended up on the floor, so no hand vacuuming!
Pool owners Heaven!

Question for all you experienced pool people......Do I really need a robot if I have a caged in pool which only gets minimal silt and salt(from the decking). I'm not against buying one but not sure if it's worth getting for something I would only need to run say once a week. Not going to hurt my opinion so let it fly!
nobody needs a pool robot, but if time is a priority for you, you may like it. It is exactly the same as my indoor roomba. I can absolutely vac with my dyson, but the roomba going off and doing its thing every other day is a nice time saver.

The pinto becomes the Ferrari if that is what your budget allows and comparing it to a pressure side cleaner with a hose that gets tangled.
YES! Went from a pressure side cleaner that would spin in circles and become entangled to a pole, vacuum head, and hose that I pushed around, to the Aiper S1. So much better and I only use it in floor mode 2-3 times a week. Close enough for government work for me.

Take a look at the Aiper S1 - was able to grab one for $475 with the discount code. I do find sand in the filter basket and the mesh on the filter basket is pretty tightly woven. I run it 2-3 times a week, but once a week wouldn't be bad either. Just drop it in and it runs for a few hours.

Trying an experiment. A neighbors pool got algae (pool service, will rant in another thread). Anyway been cleaning it up for him, and it’s mainly just cloudy now from the dead algae (and he has a crazy small filter). So I stuffed some Polyfill in the S1 and threw it in there. Let’s see if that helps. Might be a good way to deal with finer dirt.
Do you still use the polyfill? I was thinking of adding a skimmer sock to mine to try to trap some more fine stuff, but I think I will have to manually vacuum first and then let the bot maintain from that point. (Pool guy had set the filter not to valve back to filter for a month... after cleaning the filters).

Nah, cant be bothered. I find the S1 just does a pretty good job cleaning. I dont even clean the filter except for once a week. Or if there is a huge amount of debris in the pool. I basically throw it in every day. Why not it’s super easy.

I got the S1 yesterday, and was super excited to drop it in. Within 2 minutes, it attacked the pool jet and got blasted off the wall, then skated on its back wheels halfway to Narnia.

It eventually figured out that it was now in the deep end, and did what it could. However, it hit the same spot on the wall over and over, while I imagine silently quoting Lady Macbeth.

The most egregious issue is watching it suck up the fine dirt and pollen off of the pool floor, only to blast it out its blow hole seconds later. The lack of an ultra fine filter means I now have cloudy water that will soon deposit itself back onto the floor. I guess job security for the robot? Maybe in someone else's pool. It'll be on its way back to Amazon tomorrow.

my experience to a T as well. I think someone earlier mentioned stuffing the basket with some absorbing material to catch the fine stuff. Doesn't fix your other issues though.

This has been my experience, too. I haven't figured out how to remove the Scuba without it dropping stuff back into the pool.
I rarely have that issue as the trap door snaps shut when the robot turns off. Guess if you have a small twig stuck in the opening, that could let a little silt slip out. 🤷🏻‍♂️
I’ve been using mine pretty every other day for 6 weeks now and the trap door has always been sealed closed whenever I took out the basket to clean it. The bottom always looks clean when done.
For what it’s worth.

No thoughts. Never tried the Pro so cannot really comment.

The one thing to remember about these bots is we know nothing about their longevity. At under $500, I am expecting to get 3 years out of the S1. $150 a year wont make me angry.
