Hi All,

Had a Dolphin Active 20 / S200 for 2.5 years before motor failure. Instead of throwing $400+ at a new motor assembly I'm considering a $500 Aiper S1 / N1 from a big box store because they offer an extra year or 2 service plan for ~$100 more. Any thoughts on whether their plans, which kick in after 2 year Aiper factory warranty expires, are worth the paper their printed on?

Thanks!

Before we get to years 2+, have you rabbit holed the Aiper threads to see all the issues before then ?

I give Aiper high marks for fixing the bots with great customer service. I give them a hard pass because they prove it over and over.

I have read through them and I agree that the issues do give me pause BUT if a Dolphin only lasts 2-3 yrs, I'm not seeing total cost of ownership being all that different between the two (assuming Aiper continues to honor their warranty with apparently good customer service as time goes on).

For reference, I bought an Active 20 from Marina Pool & Spa in 2019 for $700. It lasted 3 years. Unfortunately they are now $1100. So I'm calculating $367 per year for the Dolphin w/ a 3 yr warranty VS. $250 per year for the Aiper w/ a 2 yr warranty.

I've also considered going down to the Dolphin E20 or equivalent for $600 w/a 2 yr warranty which is $300 per year.

Ok GREAT. With so few posts over such a long time, you might not have stopped by in 5 years. Just making sure. (y)

Marina started advising the evos and many have gone that way with no issues. It's been a few years now.

How does the dolphin fail so quickly? I’m going on about 5 years and got an extended warranty from Amazon for not much money. So far no problems…

Lots of threads about it but in my case the impeller motor failed due to the brushed motors filling up the motor housing with carbon debris. I took it all apart and wanted to just replace the $20 motor but they are hard to come by and the entire motor assembly is very expensive ($400+) and has/will have the same issue. I can't say why mine failed in 3 years and yours hasn't. Seems luck of the draw.

Thanks! Yeah I've looked into the EVO line but I'm not sure I want to drop $800 on a 604 or 614. I looked at the EVO 502 for $500 but no one seems to have much experience with it. At the end of the day, if these all seem to last just a couple to a few years, I'd like to stay as cheap as possible for a "disposable" piece of equipment.
