Adding cya

I've read about how to add cya, but quick question. I always have a skimmer sock in my skimmer. So could I just dump the cya into my skimmer, since a sock is in there already? Wouldn't that be the same thing as dumping in a cotton athletic sock?

As long as it does not restrict the flow through the skimmer, sure. Be sure to run the pump continuously until the CYA is fully dissolved.

I don't see why that wouldn't work. Might get a little dirty but it should be gone in 24-48 hours.

Thank you both. So I would run the pump until it's gone, then another 24 hours? Or once it's all gone I can go back to my shutdown schedule?

Once the powder is fully dissolved, you can return to your normal schedule.

I have a hairnet in the skimmer itself then place my cya in a skimmer sock tie a knot in the end and chuck it in the skimmer. A massage every hour or so and it’s gone in less than half a day. I make sure I run my pump for 24 hours on low.
