A Houston Pool Build Inside the Loop

I would wait to seal until you see if there are issues. I am glad we didn't seal our flagstone. 3-1/2 years later and it looks exactly the same. I don't need more maintenance tasks. My list is plenty long enough already! :)

They should be listed on the contract if you PB will be using them. They will go where ever a valve would be used.

It is worth it to get them. They last a LONG time without having to worry about them.

See what your PB says.

Thanks! I will ask our PB on Friday about the valves. We are having a meeting to go over tile, coping and stone selections. We are having a harder time than anticipated identifying the pavers we already have. The brand is Pavestone, that we know. The company who installed them have our records warehoused but gave us a suggestion based on a picture what they thought they were. Our PB is bringing samples for us to look at.

I am hoping the Lightstreams samples I ordered will come in tomorrow so I will have them for the meeting. Interestingly, Lightstreams asked who my PB was and when I told him, he had very positive things to say about them (I was surprised he had even heard of them!). Also, Dave from Lightstreams, wanted to know how I had heard about their tile and I told him that his tile was spoken highly of on this website. He seemed quite happy about that! He even asked me to repeat the name of the site.

I ordered samples of peacock, aqua blue, turquoise and the shell beach. Can't wait to see them!

It was suggested that I put this Lighstreams story in my thread just so I have a record of it. I mentioned some of it in #592. I spoke to Dave Knox, the glass designer, when I called and ordered my tile samples.

Okay. Well I don't remember that much. But when I called the man that answered the phone said he was Dave. When I told him I wanted samples he said okay and said he was really just walking by the phone and since everyone else was busy he answered. Dave said he was the designer of the tiles, had owned a laser company and worked with optics previously. His tiles are all based on optics. Dave said the challenge was how to make thousands of tiles efficiently being in California and all. He also told me how he made one side irredescent and one side not but honestly it went over my head.

Dave was quite friendly. One of the first things he asked was what I wanted the tile for and I said pool. Then he wanted to know if I had a PB and when I said yes he wanted to know the name. After I told him, Dave was very complementary about their designs, naming some of the people in the firm! He wanted to know how if heard about LightStreams from the PB and I said no, that I heard about it from a pool forum, Troublefree Pool. I told him that everyone raved about his tile on this site. He seemed kinda interested and asked me the name again. I thought he might be writing it down.

When we were talking samples, I told him I was thinking of PebbleSheen Blue Surf. He was very familiar with PT since he designed their glass (as he called it). When I asked "Glass Beads?" He said no, not those, they're low quality! LOL! He meant the tiles PT now sells.

I wish I could remember more. i kinda felt like I didn't want to take up too much of his time. But in the end he didn't charge me for the samples which was very nice. He even talked me into a turquoise sample. Dave did say that Peacock is his favorite.

Overall it was a great experience! Sorry I can't tell you more. If anything comes to me, I'll post it on my thread.

Are they easy to change out, pooldv? I doubt I'll be getting those on the initial build. My PB is an official Hayward service center.

They can be tricky to change out without some replumbing depending on how much room there is between stuff. Your PB being a Hayward dealer will not impact them using Jandy valves. You will probably get Jandy valves, most PBs use them. My PB is an exclusive Pentair dealer and he used Jandy valves on my build.

I should have inquired about the Jandy Neverlube and now I already have the plain Jandy Gold Ball Valve installed. Ike pointed that out to me. Ugh. I should have done more research like you are doing first. So now, when one fails I will change them all out to the Neverlube. wendy p. (newbie)
