    New Oasis on Long Island

Just signed the contract with our PB. We will be building in the fall. He designed everything and we are very happy with it. Can't wait to see it come to life. Only thing we are not doing are the fire bowls. They will be bowls with lights that spill into the pool.

Looks good, what are dimensions? Might consider more than 1 color logic depending on the size. I'm also using the AquaPlus and AquaConnect and couldn't be happier. Looking forward to following your build. Before someone else says it, get yourself a good test kit such as the TF-100 before your pool is completed.

The pool will be 20x34. I asked the PB a few times already. "will that 1 light be enough for the pool" his response was it will be a perfect glow and i don't want to much light because it would take away from the lighted bowls and lighted WF. I think it could use another light, but the wife said Ill make it look like an xmas tree. 😉

I really like your design...Based on the size of your pool, I would recommend at least one more light.

Thank you. The PB really did an awesome job with the space, the pool, the patio, and the steps. We are very excited. Do you think replace the 1 hayward 4.0 with 2 smaller lights? Or just 1 more of the hayward colorlogic 4.0?

Re: New Oasis on Long Island

I would look at adding a couple of the colorlogic 320 which are a smaller light, I have 2 of them on my steps and the larger one on the far end and it's perfect coverage. Depending on the transformer used you'll also have the ability to change the brightness, I would talk to your PB about it more.

Re: New Oasis on Long Island

my cousin just finished his pool and he has 2 firepits vs bowls on each rear corner. they are even with the water vs raised like yours, but they are awesome. really awesome. i'm sure his builder destroyed him on the price but they r really cool.

i like ur design. i agree with the others. more lights. smaller in size. what i'm doing. i have seen it in person with smaller lights vs less larger and it's really nice.

good luck! really like ur shed with the small walls. really really nice. my kinda style.

Thank you. The shed actually mimics the house.

We are not doing the fire for that ($$$) reason. But I'm sure it will look good with the lights.

Re: New Oasis on Long Island

oh i just noticed. r u doing hemlocks or arborvitae along the whole fence?

if you are really set on it i would say hemlock. coming from a family who was in the landscaping business for years, hemlocks, when kept up with for care are wonderful and full. i will say when you have 1 go on you they for some reason just keep going. they want lots of good very rich soil. arborvitae will grow in more poor soil.

my grandfather only used hemlocks way back cause he was insane with caring for them for his clients and they were awesome when cared for.

what i will say though is i would never do that many. only because once they r established and you loose one it just looks really wacky. i have a neighbor that had 2 go last year after 15 years. so you can tell they were really tall and now they are replaced with much shorter ones and they will just never catch up and look right. i'm just not a fan of hedge lines like that for that reason only. i would have to do a complete rip out and redo.

We met with the PB today and we decided to change the design a little. We are no longer doing the spillover spa. We would rather a hot tub that can be used all year round.

We also added a light per the recommendations from TFP, and scheduled 9/5 as the start day.

I think that's a great move having the spa separately. I'd want to use the spa when it's cold an I know I'd get so much more use out of stand a lone for that reason.

That was the major reason to do it separately.

Re: New Oasis on Long Island

i like how they have stone around ur spa. how are they doing it? footers with a block wall built and filled with gravel and then a our of concrete on top with stone over that? i thought about the same thing for my house off our patio to use year round too, but didn't research it any further. what will the spa sit on? a poured pad? and then the spa will just sit as close to the steps and deck of stone like in picture?

Not sure exactly how they will do the steps. But I know the spa will sit on a 6" sub base of poured concrete. The stone will come right up to the spa, except in the back. That will stay open for access to the pumps and for maintenance. All the pavers are going to have a 4" sub base of concrete.
