    2017 Bleach Prices

Wow, I regularly fill two of those jugs for about the same price at the Leslie's around the corner. I've also seen the occasional coupon for 3 jugs for $10 (approaching $1. 33/gal!), but that's a special sale.

First Timer at my wits end!!!

Also, don't put the hose in the skimmer. Open up the pump, remove its strainer basket, and put the hose into the pump's inlet pipe. If you push water in from the skimmer, you're compacting the clog. If you push water backwards from the pump, you push the clog back into the pool.

Just a quick google search for "pacfab multi valve" returned some hits: Parts for PacFab Pentair 1-1/2" Multiport Valves Slide Backwash valve, MULTIPORT VALVE FOR NAUTILUS DE, TRITON OR TAGELUS SAND FILTERS You'll have to dig to find an exact match, but it looks like it's a Pentair product.

    Gallons?

Glad you mentioned freshness of chlorine. In reality, I don't think you can draw accurate conclusions, because even "fresh" chlorine may not have been stored in ideal conditions, and may not reflect the strength printed on the bottle.

    2017 Bleach Prices

I had one employee once ask me while I only ever bought liquid chlorine. I told her I had considered a salt generator, but hadn't committed to taking the plunge. She kinda gave me a blank stare, and then said the dry chlorines are just "so much easier". I decided to save my breath... One...

    2017 Bleach Prices

Leslie's by me regularly runs coupons. $7.98 to refill two 2.5g jugs. That's 5 gallons of 10% for roughly $8. Works out to $1.60 a gallon. They also do a punch card. Each jug refilled earns a punch. Get 10 and get a free refill. If you go on Wednesday you get double punches. If you always fill...

Add all 3 B's at same time

pH test is inaccurate with FC above 10. The good thing is FC will come down on its own, and you can test pH in a day or two.

Brand new to pools not chemistry :)

74? Whew, that's wetsuit territory around these parts. Lol... Mine is 86 right now, and that's just about perfect. Wouldn't mind a few degrees warmer for nighttime swims.

I started to respond that you'll use them quickly....but realized you have a SWG. :D You may want to keep all 6 on hand while you get the SWG dialed in just right. Just in case you run into any issues... After a pool party with a bunch of swimmers, I'll generally dose a full gallon and see...

    Bleach Prices 2015

I never said $2.20 for 5 gallons - that would be insane! I said $2.20 is the "normal" price i pay per gallon. The 5gal for $7.98 is a special in the local circular for Leslie's. That's the only thing that will get me in that store. I took in the coupon, but they did not actually take it...

Brand new to pools not chemistry :)

At this point, don't assume you need an entire fixture ($$). I went through this last year, and ended up putting a $60 screw-in LED pool bulb in the existing fixture. If you can verify your voltage (12V vs 120V) and can verify that it's "hot" at the socket, you may be able to get away with...

I got 5 gallons of 10.5% for $7.98 this week. That's a special at Leslies this week. I usually pay $2.20/gal at my regular pool store.

350k gal community pool, thrown in the deep end...

350,000 gallons? Hang on a second (counts on fingers AND toes). That's like 20x the size of my backyard pool. How the heck do you chlorinate something that size? Something tells me you aren't going to want to add upwards of 10 gallons of liquid chlorine each and every day, unless someone is...

New Build: Absolute must days to be home

I'm not sure you absolutely need to be present for any specific step, but you'll want to verify certain things at various points. Help getting water balanced

Robbie is asking because high chlorine (over 10ppm) can invalidate the results of the ph test. With the numbers posted above, both pH and alkalinity are high (and they're related, higher alkalinity tends to drive a higher pH). Fortunately, they can be adjusted together. You'll want muratic...

    New to the pool scene!

Right. Despite the marketing and labeling, "shock" really isn't a specific thing you add to your pool. "Shock"ing is more the process of raising FC to a high level to kill off things in the water. Pool companies tend to market concentrated chlorine powders as "shock". And yes, they will...

4 days away -- use pucks or just raise FC before leaving?

Eva, when I went out of town for 5 days a couple of weeks ago, I just raised my FC to the higher end of the recommended range and threw a few tabs in a floater. Came back to perfect FC level, and it only dissolved about one puck, so CYA increase was minimal. Pucks have the added benefit of...

    Speeding through bleach

That's not a hard and fast rule. With a CYA of 40, you could still use dichlor if you wanted to bring your CYA a little higher. I'm perfectly happy running mine around 50-55, since my pool gets a ton of strong sun exposure. It's just a question of how low or high you want to maintain your level.

    Bleach Prices 2015

Sure... Keep in mind, I live in S Florida, which is a pool mecca. In most neighborhoods, virtually every home has a 15k in-ground pool. As a result, we probably have as many pool stores as we do grocery stores. 10% chlorine is ubiquitous, and probably sold at/near cost at most pool stores to...

Very Low FC, Very High CC

To give you an idea why Cc is going up... You have something organic in the water - algae, ammonia, whatever. When you add bleach (FC), it attacks whatever is in the water, and gets converted to CC. So, the rising CC indicates your Slam is killing off that stuff in the water - that's a good...

Pool filled with water from pond

I doubt SFWMD would care, to be honest. Everyone is allowed to use lake/canal water to water lawns, what difference would it make to them if someone fills their pool with it.

    Where is my chlorine going?!?!

400oz should have added 11 FC to the water. Yet you're measuring 3.0. If all that chlorine was used up killing algae or something else in the water, I would tend to think CC would be more than just 0.5. But you also state the water is clear... This seems weird to me. Just throwing out ideas...
