    Stenner pump fitting material

I'd buy the ones from Stenner. Not that expensive. They have expertise in pumping chemicals into water.

    Salt vs Chlorine

Yes. But you have a VS pump. rllackey has a fixed rate pump that runs and draws the same thing all the time.

    Salt vs Chlorine

I second that. My pump currently is running 3 hours a day. Water is crystal clear. You are running your pump 21 hours a day more than me. I recommend that you install a timeclock for your pump or that you change to a VS pump (best option). With a SWG, you will have to run the pump long...

    Salt vs Chlorine

Comment on post #25 https://www.electricitylocal.com/states/west-virginia/williamson/ Electricity cost in Williamson, WV for residential customers is $0.0957/kwh 20 hours per day of uncecessary pump run time for a 1.5KW pump is 30KWH per day. If you run it for 6 months: 30KWH/day x 180 days...

    Is CYA Absolutely Necessary???

The commercial pools that do not use CYA check FC multiple times per day. This is not realistic for a residental pool.

    Is CYA Absolutely Necessary???

I'll let others chime in. Looks like your SWG would wear out quickly and you'd risk having inadequate FC levels without adequate sanitation. You might also have increased acid demand because of this and have to install an acid injection system to keep up with it. To prevent water born...

    Is CYA Absolutely Necessary???

Possible yes. Practical no. CYA was introduced to pools in the late 50s. Some outdoor commercial pools are still run without it. However it takes continous flow of chlorine into the pool to keep it up due to breakdown by light. It's not practical. I saw some recent information that public...

    SWG and Pets - Dangerous?

Most livestock (and presumably pets) will want some salt. It can be added to an animal's ration to limit intake. Typically, an animal will not consume too much salt and will seek out a water source without so much salt once their needs are fulfilled. The wild horses on the Outer Banks have...

    Cost benefit of the swg

This is a useful comparison table. Compare and Review Saltwater Chlorine Generator Prices and Features Choosing a larger SWCG would decrease your pump run times. It might be possible to OVERSIZE the SWCG and have significantly less pump run times and negate the extra electricity cost. Perhaps...

    Cost benefit of the swg

I got this from an old post: "IntelliChlor Model IC20, IC40 and IC60 Input: 95-130 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 220 Watts (2 AMP) or 220-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz, 220 Watts (1 AMP). Output: 22-39 VDC @ 7.5 AMPS maximum from the Power Center. " So watts drawn by SWCG are not a big deal. It's the kilowatts drawn...

    Cost benefit of the swg

I agree with Jimrahbe's comments on the pump. If you have a single speed pump, then the most expensive part of the SWCG equation is the electricity required for the long pump run times. With a VS pump this is not an issue. The extra electricity required for the longer pump run times costs...

    Stenner Econ T?

Question for EconT users: does the built in timer keep the time when the power is off?? Is there a batter backup? Some of us have the outlet wired off the pump timer so that the Stenner outlet is only hot when the pump is on.

Stenner pump for chlorine. Help with sizing and install ideas

You could also tell him that you are planning to put in a Pentair IntellipH in the future. Get him to put in an injection port for an IntellipH (he can't argue cause it's a Pentair product). Then tell him you want to put in a plug for installation at a later date. When the PB is gone, put a...

Stenner pump for chlorine. Help with sizing and install ideas

If you have a 120V plug close enough to plug to plug in a Stenner pump and a place on your pad, you can put one in. An outdoor/exterior timer would be needed for the Stenner. You can cut the plumbing and put it a 2"slip x 1/4" FPT x 2" slip Tee that will allow you to put the Stenner injector...

Cheap liquid chlorine injection system (stenner alternative)

    Stenner Troubles

You should turn you pool pump on for agitation and recheck your Stenner (re calibrate). Do this all after dark and recheck your FC about 30 m after your Stenner stops to see what it's putting in. The you can see how much it drops the rest of the night. If your pump is working properly, you...

Possibly Converting to Salt--ARE THE MONTHLY CHEMICAL SAVINGS REALLY THERE??

EddieMc, your costs are related to using pool store methods rather that the use of liquid chlorine vs SWG. When using the TFP method, you won't use weekly shock, clearifier, phosphate plus, etc. The SWG will help as a chlorine source, but an understanding of the TFP methods in Pool School...

Possibly Converting to Salt--ARE THE MONTHLY CHEMICAL SAVINGS REALLY THERE??

Summary: SWG is probably the way to go based on convenience but not economics. SWG require longer pool pump run times increasing your electricity cost. Recurring daily costs: $1.17 daily SWG electricity vs $1.29 daily bleach (not considering any hardware / salt / acid / etc.) Time commitment: 2...

    Stenner pump tank

I still think that the weighted strainer should be used and kept off of the bottom about 3". You could waste the bottom 3" of the bleach in the tank once yearly. Or even drain it and put in your pool manually.

Possibly Converting to Salt--ARE THE MONTHLY CHEMICAL SAVINGS REALLY THERE??

Don't do SWG for savings. Do it for convenience. The savings is probably not there. I have a chlorine injection pump and run my pump 2-3 hours per day. To run the pump for 12 hours for a SWG to make enough chlorine, I'd spend more on electricity than my chlorine even costs. Considering...

Stenner pump for chlorine. Help with sizing and install ideas

My bet is that it would be easier to replace the pump tube and duckbill annually (at the start of the season) that to wait until it fails and gives problems. It's not hard to do. It's not expensive. I add chlorine in ppm. I have my Stenner calibrated so that I know how much time it has to...

    New Stenner pump/Plumbing

I like it. The basement is a much better place to store the bleach from a stability standpoint. Cooler temps make it degrade slower.
