    SWG Plumbing Question

One more little thing. Pentair, for example, only includes a full warranty when installed by an authorized Pentair dealer-installer. DIY gives you a drastically shorter warranty. I don't know if other manufacturers have a similar policy, but it might be worth checking. My Pentair IC-40...

    Exploding SWCG Questions

Whoaaa, Jim. IMPORTANT! [Credit to "Casablanca" screen writer.) Could you expand on that exploding cell thing? I have my Pentair IC40 powered on with a mechanical timer, thinking it's not good to power things that aren't in use. My time is set so that it turns on a few minutes after the pump...

Brand New IC40 Says Low Salt

I just noticed this is a DIY installation. In any case, you want to get this resolved quickly, as when not installed by an authorized Pentair dealer, your warranty is pretty darned short.

Brand New IC40 Says Low Salt

Maybe I missed this reply, but my copy of the manual for the IC40 says minimum salt is 3600ppm. Oddly enough 3600 is also listed as optimum. Kindof a small range. However, I often get 3400 from my 1766 test kit while the cell displays salt is OK. So, there may be a problem with your cell...

You might want to check Pentair warranties with authorized dealer install vs DIY.

Intellichlor "cell" light won't stop blinking.

According to my IC40 manual, the flashing green cell light means the scg needs to be inspected. The blades may have calcium buildup. The cell is not producing chlorine.

Would a SWG be right for me?

I've had a pool for five years. Two years ago it looked like chlorine might become in short supply as well as more expensive, so I had a Pentair IC40 installed. A few months ago, the cell failed, and it was replaced under warranty. I point that out, because Pentair's warranty is significantly...

    Pentair IC 40 problem

Slowride, look above this message. Gene has TF-100 and K-1766 test kits. You need them too. "Haven't added salt in a while" tells us nothing. Light is blinking tells us little. You need a full set of test results--not from a pool store--for the very knowledgeable people to be able to help...

    Salt Water Generator Problems

Minor point. If you look at Jim's earlier comment, he suggested an IC40 might be a bit small for your 30k gallon pool. This might be the time to consider an IC-60.

Pentair IC-nn and IntelliConnect with Pentair Home

Thank you, Jim. That's what I hoped. It's a big jump from 40 to 60. Even bigger from 20 to 40 like in the early spring. Disappointed that Pentair never answered my inquiry. Back in 2018-19, they had a really knowledgeable and helpful guy, Brian Boothe, who would answer questions and even...

Pentair IC-nn and IntelliConnect with Pentair Home

I get no reply from Pentair tech support on this. My IC40 is connected via the IntelliConnect and shows up in Pentair Home. Pentair Home reports the "Chlorine Output" plus Salt Level (only Good or ?) and the Salt Cell Water Temp. The Chlorine Output is adjustable IN THE APP in 1% increments...

Pentair IC40 Extremely Low PPM Reading

One more thing. Have you removed and checked the cell for calcium deposits? Pentair recommends quarterly checking.

Correct amount of chlorine for a salt water pool?

What Emily said. In addition, the test for CYA is a bit subjective, and it's hard to not look at the tube and say "that's too high, I think its nn." Accordingly, I use the TFP SWCG FC chart but use the FC minimum and target for the next level of CYA. My CYA recently showed as 70 (3-5ppm), but...

Pentair IC40 Extremely Low PPM Reading

One more thing. The Taylor 1766 test kit is inexpensive and is the "gold standard" for testing for salt. Your APERA PC60-Z is another electronic tester and susceptible to all the things that make your other equipment questionable at times.

    Pentair IC40 salt reading high

Two things you'll read here all the time: If the Salt Good light is on, don't worry; and get a Taylor K-1766 salt test kit. I agree with both of those.

    SWG

Walter, I can't account for pool builders being anti-salt. Mine was and "warned" me that he strongly advised against a SWCG and that I could expect warranty issues if I went that way. I'm short of a year since I had mine retrofitted and so far so good. I had planned to seal the coping, but I...

    <2yr old IC40 seems broken

Thanks for that report, khobar. If that does bite you, please share, although I don't expect it will. If there were going to be a problem, I imagine the tech would have called it in on the spot rather than replace the cell. Good to know what he found, though. Was your acid 15 or 31%?

Salt water pool - Are there different kinds?

Jim, I'm not sure his neighbor isn't in the majority. I know two pool owners with SWCG for chlorine. Neither of them have any idea that the salt is there to create chlorine. They both are convinced that salt is an alternative to chlorine and that their salt pools are just like ocean salinity...

Is there a salt that’s better than others?

I hadn't noticed that "natural stain fighters" on the bag. I've only used one bag, and I haven't seen any sign of a grey scum in the water, on the waterline, or in my skimmer socks. Now I'm getting nervous about it. Anyone else have the scum problem or have any idea what the "stain fighters"...

Is there a salt that’s better than others?

I don't know how widespread its distribution is, but I bought a bag of AquaSalt LLC product from a Houston area (Katy) Ace Hardware, and assuming it remains available, it is my new salt. It's labeled Food Grade, and that may explain why it's very fine and dissolves rapidly. In fact, when I...

IC60 - low salt light, but Taylor kit saying 3400ppm

Maybe/probably not an issue but... K1766 has a +/- error factor. The IC60 has a +/- error factor. Pentair says 3600ppm is both the minimum and ideal salt concentration. Easy and cheap to add another bag of salt.

Salt Cell clogging up in days

Brian, I know several people who are happy with their pool guy. They are happily ignorant of the chemical condition of their pool water. In all honesty, I don't see how it is possible to maintain a swimming pool with a once a week visit. Nonetheless, I do not challenge by happy friends with...

    Life of SWCG cell

I hope I got one of those 9 year versions. Fingers crossed on the lightning. I've never had a breaker trip in a storm, but the overnight when Ida came ashore we, along with the neighbors I've spoken with, had at least half a dozen breakers trip. That can only be an extraordinary surge.

    Life of SWCG cell

Thanks for the clarification, Marty. And Trivetman, I think like you that 10,000 hours may be optimistic when I run the numbers. Say I'm running on my current schedule 11.5 hours a day at 20%. That's 10 daytime hours plus 1.5 hours between 2 and 4 am. Total 840 hours in a year, with more in...

    Life of SWCG cell

Someone highly experienced and respected here (How are you, Marty?) once remarked as part of an answer to why higher CYA with SWCG, that the life of a cell may be about 10,000 hours. I'm not asking if that is a good estimate, but rather of what is it an estimate. In other words, is that 10,000...
