    Jerks with Wings

^FWIW, I did. The bee keeper LIVES across the street from me. I told him I was getting dozens at a time, that there were borates in my water, that I didn’t want to kill them or use Tempo, which would kill off his hives, etc. He didn’t do anything, said the bees knew best...so I then called in an...

    Jerks with Wings

Update...I do have an endless supply of bees due to the beekeeper across the road. The bees since treatment are less inclined to hang out in the pool directly, and ultimately die if the do. But the little morons are now constantly trying to invade the deck box where the wet noodles go to get at...

    NEW clear water tinted green

I had been asked to advise you on sequestrant but I actually do think given the small volume etc. that you first try Roode’s meth9d ;) If for any reason that doesn’t work, order Metal Magic by Proteam. I know that one works. It’s just better to remove it if you can ;)

Awesome. I have mine too but am waiting til the morning, post-physio, to treat since they recommend staying out of the pool for six hours.

Okay, so I just ordered Skill-it. Hopefully even if it’s strictly the water tension, word will get out that happy hour is lethal ;)

    Jerks with Wings

Kelly, at my place the honey bees drove my wasps away but they are addicted to my salt pool and are a pain in the butt. I may try this treatment as we warm up. If you try it first, please report back! Borjis, said honeybees have driven me to contacting bee keepers and an entomologist, so I’ll...

Winter storage: how long to do; drying liner; chemistry

Have you considered whether it will fit in a tall garbage can on wheels, eg 75 gal? My dome is 11' tall and almost 50x35 so it wouldn't fit, but a liner might ;) This was what we used but you'll have to seal up the doors and lid with it...for us, it worked well because the dome was too heavy...

Winter storage: how long to do; drying liner; chemistry

Hi Nina. I just store a vinyl dome for the summer that's a lot like a liner. When you clean it, use a 20% solution of chlorine to water. If you really want to make sure it stays dry, I used baking soda, which worked well. I also, at Kim's suggestion, used desiccant pouches that hang - they...

Greetings and welcome. Is it losing water with the pump turned off? Have you attempted any dye testing? There is a hydrostatic valve that can get stuck open. Here's a video (search for others for more detail) that shows someone die testing the valve. hydrostatic valve stuck open - YouTube

Pool Net Cover Questions, skimmer, pool vacuum

I get a lot of leaves here and in the old days, closed by Oct 20thish before the big overhead maple did its final drop. Last year I had to stay open into Nov. because I was installing a winter dome that hadn't shipped in time. I used a leaf net cover over top of a solar cover, and secured the...

No pool care for 4-6 months

Well, as someone whose recovered a foreclosure inground swamp, which had sat open for a few years before getting covered, I'd say you'll be much further ahead than I was by managing debris and keeping the cover intact ;) Your best strategy is to keep the cover tight and dark, then opening very...

Need a New Liner and Considering Whole New Pool. Thoughts/Advice

Greetings, James, and welcome to TFP. My pool is an in-ground and I'm not super familiar with above-ground rehab, but I did want to share a bit about heavy forest debris and maintaining clear water. Provided that your circulation is good and your filter effective, my experience as been that...

Oil fired boiler for pool heater

In that case, with copper exchanger and no home zones to worry about, its worth a try. I don't know in your area if propane is much cheaper than oil these days ;) Make sure you use a really good solar cover (bubble type, I like the clear 12 mil type) on the pool when you're not in it to retain...

Oil fired boiler for pool heater

Edit...i just realized you said stand alone...most of my comments are integrated scenarios...but i would still say it depends on btu, what the exchanger is made of, and that youd still be better off financially with a gas boiler designed for swiming pool heat. ================= I think what...

    Pool heating

So if the air to water differential is about 20 degrees, you'd lose about 45,000 BTU an hour which in a 15k gallon pool should be roughly a third of a degree, assuming you get about 2.6-3 degrees an hour from your heater. So to keep heat at 85 would take an hour of running for every 9 hours the...

    Pool heating

This doesn't directly answer your question bu seems to b a highly accurate calculator for heating costs: SWIMMING POOL ENERGY TEMPERATURE CALCULATOR | Neil Anderson At about $2.65 per degree (if you get 3 degrees an hour) it will depend how many days between uses I suspect. Here, in Michigan...

    Blue substance on Filter

Hi Meesh. I am not a fan of Metal Free because I've been involved with a number of threads where it doesn't/hasn't effectively sequestered the metal...its citirc acid, not the HEDP (phosphonic acid) that we normally recommend for metal sequestering. My hunch is that, given the citric acid, this...

    Water bugs...

I had those late last summer and per Hermes recc ordered Backup. But I'd also topped up my borates, and the bugs were gone before the backup arrived. So I think there's something to keeping borates around 50 ;)

Rednecky, I'm not likely qualified to comment on your scheme, but I just want to welcome you to the forum and give your post a boost in the hopes that someone more mechanically minded will see it ;) I also have a few naive and possibly geography-related comments to share about your concept ;)...

You could "operant condition" them with water guns -- a useful cat training technique, ime ;) (the little cat brain eventually registers 'I better not drink from the pool or someone/something will squirt me.) I was also thinking you could tie a noodle to the ladder area -- I'm pretty sure...

    foamy, white water

How many gallons? If youre taking about 5k or 10k, I think I'd recommend you start over only because the cost-benefit equation to sequester that much iron plus the filtering hassle would perhaps outweigh a fresh start IF my evil plan works. Evil plan would be for you to buy one of those hose...

Help! My pool water is brown and I don't know why?

The hard part to determine is where iron is coming from, if it is in fact iron. If it's coming from your fill water, there's a chance that even if you refilled, then shocked, you could have the same problem. But you now have possible copper as well from the poolstore additions, so you might want...
