I was not trying to run a OCTL test. I was actually only trying to determine my FC demand (loss) on a hot day so I could then use a table that someone on TFP sent me that calculates the duration and percentage that your SWG needs to run to maintain your target FC. I just run a FC test again...

We get a lot of hot daily sun where I am out so a daytime drop of 4 FC does not surprise me. I have added some cyanuric acid to raise my CYA to 70 to see if I can reduce the daytime loss to 3FC. I can then run my SWG at 60% for 8 hours to offset this according to pool math.

Last night at 8 PM the FC tested at 5. This morning at 8AM the FC reading was either 3 or 3.5 so this was an overnight FC drop of either 1.5 or 2.0. Ps: the pool is clear and Cc is readings 0.5 or less.

My CYA is currently at 60. My testing is equivalent to an OCLT and I thought you fail if you lose more than 1FC overnight?

So i know it is important to keep your FC replenshed by either manually adding chlorine or a SWG to meet the daily FC demand and also to use LC tp SLAM twhen you need to eliminate algae. My question is there any value or harm in adding an algecide to a balanced pool as an algae preventative?

I agree with your comment on the test being tricky especially trying to determine when the black dot totally disappears. Is there a recommended procedure for doing that?

I had green algae and used the SLAm method to delete. I only added liquid chlorine from Wallmart the whole time. Somehow during the process my CYA readings raised from 60 to 80. As my algae problem just ended i still have an FC of 24 and CC of 0.5 or less. The FC is still to high to measure PH...

First time removal of pool light to clean niche and found this material inside along with lots of green algae. Not sure what it is except maybe pool construction material. Any ideas?

Proavia: thanks for the information on pool light removal. My FC this morning was 25 with no drop from last nights reading (passed OCLT) so I may not have to remove the light afterall unless you think it is stiill a good idea.

Ok is the light removal a difficult thing to do? Where can I find instructions for removing and re-installing the light. Being under water might be difficult. Do I need too drain pool to just below the light level. Hate to do so but I and worry about my eyes with a current FC of 25.

Lots of gray dead algae in pool is clogging up the filter cartridges quickly. I been cleaning filters about every 2 hours. Is there something i can put in skimmer to collect algae and stop from traveling to the filter?

So even though the pool has turned from Green to blue it still has live algae in it?
