New Pool - Need help balancing!

Vacuum to waste is using your manual vacuum but instead of the water going through the filter you change the multi-port valve to waste. Take some pictures of your filter if you need more help.

New Pool - Need help balancing!

The pleated paper looking filters are what you want to use. They may get clogged up very quickly. For the next couple days I'd try leaving the filter off at night & vacuum to waste in the morning. If your work schedule doesn't allow that then turn off the filter before going to work & vacuum...

New Pool - Need help balancing!

If your ready to start the SLAM then add enough chlorine to get up to 12 ppm. Filter should be running 24/7. Check chlorine level 30 minutes after adding to see if you hit 12. Just do the FC test.

    3 separate tests= 3 readings

I'll have to admit to being on the lax side when it comes to testing. Maybe once a week do the OTO/Phenol Red test. Complete set of tests every 2 or 3 weeks. It's rare that I have any water problems. You should post a complete set of test results. It could help you get suggestions to get the PH...

About to run out of liquid chlorine

I've picked up 40 gallons in the last week & can get you all you want. It's just a 30 hour drive from Austin! Mine comes from a local chemical store that also supplies commercial pools. You might want to call some chemical distributers near you & see if they sell to the general public.

Liner fade already? Just got my TF100 test kit.

That looks much better. I'd add a pound of 20 Mule Team Borax & recheck after a few hours. You might end up using all 4 pounds but just add 2 today & if necessary repeat tomorrow. There's nothing wrong with doing the OTO chlorine test along with the PH. At the very least it'll verify that there...

Liner fade already? Just got my TF100 test kit.

You may have put too much pool water in the comparator block. After adding the 5 drops & capping there should be an air bubble at the top. The air bubble mixes the solution as you flip the block from top to bottom. I'd take a picture of the liner every month & then compare it to the previous...

Liner fade already? Just got my TF100 test kit.

I can't tell what the PH or Chlorine level is. You either didn't mix after adding the drops or the lighting was awful when taking the picture. After adding the drops put the cap on & flip the comparator block a few times until the solution is the same color from top to bottom.

Did my pool guys mess up?

A gallon of chlorine for your size pool should have been enough. As Marty said we really don't know without the results from a recommended test kit. I can't recall anyone else with a salt water chlorine generator also using a pool service. How much are you paying for their "expertise"?

    Chlorine comparator block

Looks like you have a defective block.

    CC 1 to 2 ppm

Chlorine/CYA chart Keep an eye on your filter pressure. Cloudy water can cause the pressure on a DE filter to rise quickly. Get some more chlorine in there.

    Developed sensitivity to chlorine

I itch just looking at them. How long does it take for the swelling to go down?

Is the rash all over your body or just in certain areas?

    Going out of town

I'm not familiar with recommendations for new plaster. I'll let someone else tackle this.

    Going out of town

How much does your PH normally rise over 4 days? Give the chlorine plenty of time to circulate before turning off the pump.

    Going out of town

You could take FC up to slam level (24) before you leave. That should keep you out of trouble on a 4 day leave.

    PH off the charts?

Both the OTO & FAS/DPD in the TF-100 kit are made by Taylor. So saying Taylor doesn't narrow it down. I'm pretty sure AJW wanted to make sure you used the FAS/DPD. I've seen a lot of posts where people say they used the drop test. They both use drops so it leaves me uncertain. Sorry for my...

    Filter running Lo

    Is the water clear?

    Filter running Lo

Backwashing the filter might have left large amounts of dirty DE in the filter. I'd disassembly the filter & hose off all the grids (?) thoroughly.

Are the skimmer & pump baskets free of debris? If so then you may need to increase the pump speed.

Hand holding needed! Water balancing attempt for SWG conversion .

I did see your photo album. That's where I saw the pool wasn't close to the house. No voltage drop over 250' - Nice job! PS - Love the fountain & deck lights

Hand holding needed! Water balancing attempt for SWG conversion .

Just curious, how far is the filter pump from the electrical panel & did you have to use a heavier gauge wire?

    Ammonia in pool water

AJW might not have realized you used liquid stabilizer.

FC should be least 3ppm for OCLT. I like to get mine up to 5ppm.

    A curiosity

Did you use R-0003 for the Block chlorine test? If so that's wrong - should be R-0600.

distinguishing between pH 7.8 and pH 8.0 with K-2006 test kit

You might want to consider a Stenner pump to automatically inject acid.

Is CH 400 or 4,000? 4k would have been 160 drops At 4K you might be able to walk on water.

    Different FC results - “R-0870 w/ R-0871” vs. “Taylor K-1000 w/ R-0014”

Yeah the K-1000 isn't as accurate as the drop test. Note that there is no range on the test block. The 5 is used for a chlorine pool & the 10 is for a bromine pool. Disregard all the numbers under Br.
