    Replacement filters.. brands, quality?

It's time to get another filter for our pool. We'll deep clean the current one to have as a backup. How has your luck been with non-oem filters? Any brands to avoid? It's for a Hayward C200s filter. Thanks!

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

I think I'll get a bigger rock AND change the hairnet in the evening after the pump has turned off for the day. OR turn off the pump. Great advice.

    Rock in skimmer line

What was the resolution, if any?

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

    1) dropped rock in skimmer 2) turned off pump 3) tried wet vac in skimmer. No success 4) tried drain king in pump basket pipe. No success 5) tried to find rock with endoscopic camera. Made it to first turn, couldn't get it further 6) considered reversing pump flow to push water through at full...

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

So, in our first attempt we pushed it back into the pipe a little. So we blew it out again, and I had the bright idea to put my hand in to try and grab it in case it was pushed out of the pipe altogether. Voilà! Thanks for all the ideas and support!

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Holy wowzer! It worked!! ( a couple of tries at 100 psi!) Now we're figuring out how to get it the rest of the way out.

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Hubby saw this thread on winterizing (which we never do) and wondered if we could hook up the compressor to the pump basket as shown and blow air through the pipe. It would also blow air through the pump, right? Is that a problem?

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Not yet, but that would be pretty easy to try. Will definitely give that a shot before the pump option.

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Oh, yes. I dropped it in and it disappeared. Sigh. Another thought is an "ice pig".. put in an ice slurry to increase pressure against the rock. If it doesn't work, the ice will melt.

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Camera won't go past first bend, and all the tight 90 degree bends make me doubtful that we can get anything around all the bends. New "plan"(ish) ... Route pump flow back into skimmer pipe. We'd turn the pool to spa mode, so that the pump gets water from the spa, and nothing is being pulled...

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Mind reader!! My husband ordered the nozzle yesterday... He already has the super long hose. Fingers crossed! I promise I'll post the outcome of this adventure. There are lots of similar threads that just end with lots of suggestions and no outcome reported.

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

Update: We tried the drain king. Water moved into the skimmer, but no rock. We bought an endoscopic camera with a 16 foot cable. We'll be taking a look tomorrow hopefully see the rock, and then devise an extraction strategy.

    Sand vs cartridge filters

In reading the algae and chemistry threads, it seems that a lot of the "slamming a long time" and "still cloudy" posts relate to sand filters. Is this my imagination, and, if not, what are the advantages of sand vs cartridge filters? (Tempting the pool gods, but I just cleaned my cartridge...

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

So, PB didn't get back to me yet. I've been running with the main drain only and I'm getting tired of manually skimming bugs and stuff. There are lots of 90 degree turns between the skimmer and the pump. Do you think I'll make the situation a lot worse if I partially open the skimmer valve? I'll...

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

I did run with the skimmer (and main drain) on for a couple of minutes yesterday to see if the rock would come through. Psi was within normal range. Right now just running with main drain. PSI in normal range. Waiting to hear back from PB tech to see if we want to push vs. pull.

So you think it's ok to run the skimmer?

    Aack.. dropped rock in skimmer

I use a small river rock to weigh down the hairnet in my skimmer. Maybe 2 x 3 x .5 inches. When I was changing the hair net in the skimmer yesterday I dropped it in. I immediately went to turn off the pump. We tried using our wet vac to suck it out to no avail. I've called the PB for...

    Deep cleaning cartridge filter

We've been cleaning our filter frequently since pollen season, including one soak in some water with TSP. Whatever gunk is in there just isn't coming out. We put in a new filter and the flow and pressure improved dramatically. Our old filter is just over a year old, and doesn't look damaged...

    Filter Vibration noise

Oh - I wasn't thinking of that. I was thinking of the o-ring/electrical tape inside the housing solution. I thought that was where the vibration was coming from. We have a soda keg so stole the o-ring to try that. So far so good. If that doesn't work we'll try the foam in the turning mechanism...

    Filter Vibration noise

Moved from here. Hello all.. I know this is an old thread, but we have the exact same problem, and if anyone can share a photo of their solution it would be MUCH appreciated!

Ackk -just got first month's power bill!

Brand new pump, brand new pool. We bought what the PB provided. We'll look at VS when this one dies (hopefully not for a long time). In the meantime, we'll see how it runs on low speed.

Ackk -just got first month's power bill!

Thanks all! I have set the timer for 4 hours on low, 1 hour on high, and SWG to 100%. We'll see how the pool likes it. Also set to run the high setting at night, so we don't have to run it "extra" to get our water features when we are most likely to be in the pool.

Ackk -just got first month's power bill!

Thanks! Looks like we can run the SWG a lot fewer hours and still keep chlorine generation at a good level. Is there any difference, in terms of impacting life of salt cell, between running the system for a short time at a higher percentage, and running it at a longer time at a lower percentage?

Ackk -just got first month's power bill!

We have a 2 speed Hayward 2 HP pump (think it's this Hayward SP3015X20AZ Super II Inground Pool Pump, 230V, 2 HP, but will check tonight). For the first month it has run from 9 to 6 daily, plus often in the evenings when we wanted the water features on. We have an Aquarite T-15 salt cell...
