Questions for Purchasing a New Cartridge Filter

Definitely intriguing, but I am concerned about the design of having inlet and outlet on opposite sides of the filter, making it very difficult (or maybe impossible) to fit into my plumbing setup. Also it comes in only 200 and 250 square feet, whereas I would like something in the 400 sqft...

Questions for Purchasing a New Cartridge Filter

Thanks Gene. I see that you have an in-floor cleaning system, while I have a robot. I suppose the robot would result in less cleaning frequency? I use hairnets as well. I have heard that as well...that in comparison to a DE filter, one shouldn't wait for that ~25% increase in psi as a...

Questions for Purchasing a New Cartridge Filter

I have decided to switch out my DE filter for a cartridge one. What is the best way to buy a new one? Online and if so which retailer --- is inyo pools preferred? Also, I understand that I should buy the biggest filter that I can. Exactly how big is that? For example I have a 13K gallon...

Done with DE and Looking to Switch to Cartridge

Hi, As the title states I no longer want to mess with DE - the backwashing, DE additions to the skimmer, the semi-annual cleanings, and the occasional DE coming into the pool when something isn't right inside the filter. Questions I have: 1) Do I need to replace my DE filter, or can I...

Weir Door Stop (I Think) Broken Off

Thanks everyone. As an update I used JB Weld's Epoxy Putty Stick on the piece that broke off, stuck it back on and held it for about an hour with 2 clamps. Gave it the "cannonball" test and all seems good for now. Epoxy

Weir Door Stop (I Think) Broken Off

I was cleaning out my Dolphin robot yesterday and came across this in the basket. I put it into the "look into later" pile. Then this morning I noticed a large amount of air bubbles coming from the returns. I went over to the skimmer (I have only one), and saw that that the weir door was...

    DE vs cartridge filter?

Ah OK. I think I have also seen hose bibs plumbed there for draining purposes as well.

    DE vs cartridge filter?

Where does the water that is drained go? Is there either PVC or a backwash hose at the 3rd port?

    DE vs cartridge filter?

I would also vote for cartridge, but DE maintenance i.e.backwashing can be minimized if you have a robot.

    Cleaning a filter

Lat week my robot had his 1st birthday, so I soaked the filters in a 5 gallon bucket of water and threw in a dishwasher pod. Came out looking a lot better. If that doesn't work I would go the TSP route that @Newdude mentioned. Not sure I would use MA though, no matter how bad they were.

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Just wanted to add that another reason for not going with the V-Green 165 was that I likely would not utilize the digital inputs function; therefore I would not be able to know the time on its internal clock. That could cause an out-of-sync condition between my SWG's timer and the motor/pump...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks again Chris for the follow-up. As an update I came across a good deal/delivery date on my existing motor so I went ahead and purchased that one. I only run the motor during off-peak hours, so I figured with the 2 speeds my energy costs are low enough. I also purchased a new impeller...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks for your response Chris! I'll address your comments/questions below: I need to get moving on motor selection as my pool has been without for 3-4 days now. Luckily it's winter! I may go ahead and get the 1.65 V-green and worry about the digital inputs later. Thanks again.

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Merged threads - TFP Mod My filter pump motor died a few days ago and I've been doing a little research for replacement motors. My current motor is a two-speed, 1.5/.2 HP one with an on-board digital timer. It seems like similar motors are difficult to find, so I have been looking as VS...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks James. I am assuming these are minimum THPs? In other words if I went with the V-Green 2.7 HP motor, it would work with all impellers?

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks James. Unfortunately the label is no longer there. I won't be able to determine the impeller P/N until I remove and disassemble the old pump. I guess I should do that prior to ordering the new pump? My pump's strainer lid is an SP-3100D if that helps.

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks Allen. Interesting that the pump has the same CAT No. as mine though. Oh well. OK makes sense. But either will work with my impeller and pump?

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Thanks James. I've decided to replace my motor, as the pump is working fine. 1) My current 2-speed motor is "No longer Available" at InyoPools, but I found it here. I have to call for pricing, but do you think this motor will be compatible with my current one and work with my Super II? 2)...

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

OK thanks. Now for Frames, Flanges and Frames...I found this motor which has a C-Flange but is a 56 Frame I believe. The bottom of the page has motors with a "C Face". Would the linked motor work for me?

HP of My Pump and Other Questions

Hi, Attached is the label from my 2-speed filter motor pump. I don't understand the 1.5/.20 HP specification. Does anyone have any ideas? Also I suspect the issue I am having with it requires a new run capacitor. I replaced the start capacitor this morning and it didn't resolve the issue...

Do I need a skimmer basket???

Before you buy the skimmer plate, have you checked to make sure you don't have an in-wall suction port? Then you could skim and vacuum at the same time.

    Lost Pin/Plunger on PSI Gauge

Thanks again. I noticed the pin was missing after I reinstalled the gauge. It's reading zero with the.pump off so I think I'm good, but I may grab a new one anyway.

    Lost Pin/Plunger on PSI Gauge

Thanks Allen. Does the gauge need to be removed or can I assess whether it's reading zero with the pump off? I may just order a new one, but it's only 3 months old.

    Lost Pin/Plunger on PSI Gauge

I was replacing the air relief valve on my DE filter and needed to remove the filter's pressure gauge (link below). Upon taking it to the garage to apply some teflon tape to the threads prior to reinstalling, I seem to have lost the little metal plunger that sits on top. Is this a problem...

Hayward DE Filter Air Relief Valve Leaking

Thanks everyone. I ordered the $10 valve from Amazon, and installed it today. So far no leaks. There are 2 or 3 pretty good videos on YouTube which guided me through it.

Hayward DE Filter Air Relief Valve Leaking

Thanks guys. I'm leaning toward replacing just the valve (the $10 part), but in order to replace that, I need to remove the whole assembly (the $80 part) anyway. Decisions, decisions...
