    Retaining Wall Details

This is great, thank you! Only issue I'm finding with that Clifton block is they do not have corners in stock, which is a bummer because I could otherwise be starting this build as soon as I could get it all delivered. Waiting a month for a few corner block is a huge bummer, but I don't see any...

And any issues with building up outside the wall at the deep end to get under the 36" threshold? I really don't want a railing.

    Retaining Wall Details

At the far end where grade is lowest from anticipated pool deck level, it is roughly a 40" drop right now. My idea is to start the wall flush at the end of the pool deck nearest the house giving 2 or 3ft of width for rock and flower bed, where it is about a 15" drop, then running about 45ft and...

    Retaining Wall Details

Anyone with any ideas here? I think I can do it with geotextile and thinking it's best to not even bother stepping the base course. Just dig it out and run the whole base the full length. The rest of the wall should go fairly quickly.

    Retaining Wall Details

Got some questions on building a retaining wall along this long side of our new fiberglass pool. The concrete shown has actually been removed, long story, and it is bare sand as of now while we await replacement concrete. Before the build started we didn't anticipate there being this much of a...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

And the PB has said he will proceed with a complete remove and replace. Sucks to have to go through that and I feel bad for the guys that gotta eat it, but it really needed to be done.

    Heater/Pool Equipment Location

Is a heat pump totally out of the question? They are quite efficient and even though they are more expensive than a gas heater I'm betting that the gas line installation plus the gas heater is at least a wash compared to going with a heat pump.

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

It's an APC cover. The concrete company has a guy here right now trying to patch the coping. I'm not convinced it will look right or even be structurally sound, but I understand why they are trying to fix it without a complete tearout.

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

The PB had brought in a huge amount of sand and it did have a more gradual roll off the side, but the PB kept robbing from this bank of sand to build grade up level for the concrete. There wasn't much left but I figured they knew what they were doing.

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

Yeah, it's more the huge, jagged chunks that are going to slice up little feet and the coping that are the major concerns. Also getting a lot of washout around the slab. I knew it didn't seem like there was enough sand built up but I figured they were the professionals and knew what they were...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

I could post dozens more picture of the coping. One long and one short side of the pool is pretty much this bad all the way around. The other two sides are better, but nowhere near acceptable.

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

I could try calling the pool company office but they have expanded operations to include a large manufacturing facility where they make rails, over the edge pool features, slides, etc. It's a pretty big operation and I was told by the pool builder that the owner would not call me. I'm guessing...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

We we around $9k I believe and a good chunk of that would cover the concrete, which they subbed out. From the sounds of it there is basically one guy that overseas all the pool work and he's running from 5:30 in the morning to midnight every day going job to job. For instance, Friday night he...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

That's probably a bit premature as this was just last Friday and he did claim he would "figure something out" but his tone and the fact that I have heard nothing since leads me to believe it may end up there in the future. What's funny is he claimed they were not able to get a good look at the...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

And now the bad. Pool builder hired a concrete company he admitted to never working with before and chose not to show up the day it was poured. After the pour I was told that the concrete crew boss decided to go on vacation and was not on site for the pour and the guy that seemed to be running...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

And here was the progress on day two. At those point they took the next day off and returned on Friday to move a lot more sand around, do some plumbing, set the auto cover track and tube and generally be ready for equipment to be set. This is where my work would start and I'd need to get the...

I'll be adding a couple timelapse videos of the build when I get some time. The dig started on May 4th and the pool was in the hole with a water truck here by 3:30 that afternoon. Backfill happened over the next couple days and that next weekend I built the decking for the shed. Power was ran...

New Fiberglass Build Progress Thread - The Good, Bad, and Ugly

So I should have done this a month ago when our build started, but better late than never. There will be some good and bad along the way, but let's get everyone up to speed. We decided on a Leading Edge Bellaire fiberglass pool. It is 14x31 and will be getting deck jets, along with three SR...

    Dissecting My Pool Quote(s)

I asked today about the Aquaplus bundle and having automation separate from the pump. Was told "it's technically not part of the motor. It comes in a bundle to save money. You get a tri-star vsp and the omni hub with a digital touch screen." A bit confusing as the part number he put into the...

I guess I'm still confused between what he quoted and what you are suggesting. Should I expect what you have suggested to be cheaper than the Omni system he spec'd? I'm fine with a system specific remote and being able to control it while not at home would be nice, if that adds significant cost...

    Dissecting My Pool Quote(s)

Ok, so the PB quoted the Super Pump VS 700 Omni with a OmniHub daughter board and the AquaRite 25k gallon SWG. I'm new to this, so forgive me if I'm off, but it sounds like he has quoted the automation in the pump, interfacing into the SWG with the daughter board. If I change to the AquaPlus...

Great, thank you all for the help. We're almost positive we're going to have the fiberglass pool installed this summer and we've had the builder hold our spot in line. He'll be coming out sometime this week to finalize all the details and get the deposit for the shell. The pool is a little over...

Interestingly enough Leading Edge says they use pea stone when installing them through their sister company. I also see you have a 14x30 pool, which is nearly identical in size to what we plan to get. With two young girls who would grow up with this, do you think it is big enough for our family?

    Dissecting My Pool Quote(s)

I asked the fiberglass builder to use gravel instead of pea/sand as shown on the quote and this was the response... "Gravel is not good for backfill. Its too jagged to be against the pool, and it also has to be compacted. Pea stone is by far the best option. Some people do call pea stone pea...

The FG quote does have a sump line w/o pump listed. Is the pump typically permanently installed and turns itself on like one would expect from the sump in their house? Or is it something you monitor and drop a pump in on occasion to pump it down? As for electrical I should be able to cover this...

The vinyl guy that was here tonight had us quoted at $76k, which just isn't acceptable for vinyl considering we're under $60k from the local guy albeit we would have to wait until '22. How typical is it for these things to go over the quote? Seems like it would be pretty easy for the builder to...
