I just dont 'get' adding CYA.

I just use the liquid instant conditioner. Yes, it's more expensive but easier to use and worth the extra cost of convenience for me.

    Adding Pentair Intellichlor ?

Great list, 100% agree. Hopefully your PB can just do 1 and 2 all at once. I love ScreenLogic, can't imagine not having it. Also love my SWCG. Also love my Robot. I would get the IC60, it's just nominally more than the IC40.

Pentair Quad DE Filter - Do I need a Backwash valve?

I have a Quad DE 100 and don't have a backwash valve. Never felt like I needed one. I just break it down and clean the filter 1-2x a year. Matt, JoyfulNoise, has a great tutorial on cleaning the Quad DE. It's super helpful and easy to follow. Guts of QuadDE Filter

Being Held Hostage By My Pool!!! (aka Intelliph installation)

The tank is flush with the base except where the pump is located. That width is very close to 17”. Also, to the other question, yes, you need an Intellichlor to operate the IntellipH.

Being Held Hostage By My Pool!!! (aka Intelliph installation)

I have a negative edge on my pool and spa as well as laminars that cause tons of aeration, so my pH would always rise. I added borates but that helped very minimally. Some pools just have a hunger for acid. I was adding acid everyday and as you know, that gets old really fast with the toxic...

    Concrete or granite for kitchen

Both are great choices, comes down to personal preference. Have you looked into quartz?

    Inflator for pool toys

I use an Airhead pump, love it. Super fast and powerful, only negative is the loudness of the motor. Make sure you get the 120 volt to plug into any outlet. There are many "Airhead" pumps on Amazon, I recommend the more powerful one like this...

    Pentair IntellipH?

Black tubing. Yes, my pad is outdoors so that might have something to do with it but definitely acid corrosion on the tubing is the main culprit.

    Pentair IntellipH?

Hmm, my tubing seems to degrade quickly. I change it when the pump heads start making a crazy loud squeaking noise. Noise goes away when I change the tubing and clean the head. The tubing looks pretty bad by that time and definitely in need of a change. Wonder if I have a microscopic leak...

    Pentair IntellipH?

The IntellipH is still going strong. Love it! What I don't love is the price of the pump head tubing. I run at undiluted full strength acid, but I'm having to change the tubing about 3-4x/year. Up to this point, I have just bought the Pentair OEM tubing from an online vendor at ~$38 per...

    Pentair IntellipH?

Agree with Brian, the seal is tight. You can install it anywhere.

Leave Robot Cleaner in Pool or Not?

I usually take mine out after it's cleaning cycle because: A. The manufacturer recommends taking it out and cleaning the basket after every cycle. B. I think it butt ugly to leave the robot and it's cable in the pool. I think it's personal preference.

    Pentair magicstream Laminar loop questions

Brian's idea is a great one and I think plumbing would be easier than trying to hide a valve close to each laminar. But either method would work.

    Pentair magicstream Laminar loop questions

The jets won't be equal without individual valves. You need some way to control the flow to each laminar. In addition, the beauty of the MagicStream Laminars is not only the laminar arc, but lighting up the stream at night, it's really a beautiful effect. How were you planning to control the...

    Pentair magicstream Laminar loop questions

I have 3 Magicstream Laminars. They use their own pump and filter. Each one has their own valve to control the flow and an extra pipe that feeds back into my returns for the overflow. You definitely need the flow filtered, not sure if you're going to use your main filter or have a separate...

Automation system worth the added expense? Tight budget

Another vote to get automation with your build. Just way easier to do it upfront. I have a fairly complex system and knew I wanted to control everything from my iPhone or PC. Best decision I ever made. If you have a spa, LED lights, SWG and heater, I think it's a no brainer to get...

Deck jet and water feature questions

Noise is from turbulent flow hitting the surface of the pool. The higher the flow of turbulent water hitting the surface, the more noise you'll hear. Think of it as a diver that goes in perfectly with little splash, very little noise. The opposite holds true for a belly flop or cannonball. I...

Deck Jets? Yay or Nay? and the cheap or the nice LED?

I have the Pentair Magic Laminars. Love them! They were pricey, but I absolutely love the effect at night. The laminar flow also has very little splash on low speeds. I use just the laminar flow without lights during the day and kids love them.

New build - Help with equipment selection, automation

I run my pool year round but mainly gets used from spring to fall. You can prob get away with cleaning a Quad DE 100 at the beginning of each season if you only use it 4-5 months out of the year, but YMMV depending on bather load and debris. I don't know a single Quad DE owner that regrets...

New build - Help with equipment selection, automation

Big +1 on package #1 for all the reasons stated above. I love my Quad DE and would buy another one if my current filter broke. Clarity of DE in a cartridge style. I don't backwash, just break it down and clean it twice a year. Takes me about 2 hours. I have different pumps for my water...

Pentair Intellibrite 5G color - Fail

Oh, that double sucks. I hope my lights don't go out, cuz I'm well past one year. I've found Pentair CS to be very accomodating when I've had issues in the past. Good luck!

Pentair Intellibrite 5G color - Fail

It's one year for standalone Pentair equipment installed by a pro. By purchasing multiple Pentair items together and having them installed by a licensed pro, your builder, the warranty gets extended to 3 years. Reach out to your builder.

Pentair Intellibrite 5G color - Fail

That sucks. Since you have all Pentair equipment, and I assume all installed by your builder, you should have a 3 year warranty. Is your builder going to replace the light under warranty?

In the planning stages looking for advice (Austin, TX)

SWG for sure. Also agree on adding another light, preferably color changing LEDs, trust me you'll love them. Would change out the 2 speed pump for a variable speed pump. Automation if you can swing the extra cost. I really prefer mini-pebble/pebblesheen over regular pebble, definitely try to...

Dolphin S300i Didn't Even Last a Year - Non Robot Alternatives?

I've had my S300i for a year and it's worked like a champ. Love it! As with all electronics, occasionally a small percentage will be bad.
