Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

Final post on this, primarily for the benefit of anyone who has these issues in the future. The system is about 14 years old now, and it turns out that I had multiple problems, all of which affected the heater operation: First was a broken check valve. The flap broke off and was swirling...

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

I went back down to give it another look, and I'm no longer getting the hi limit light. Instead I'm getting the air flow light. What is the troubleshooting procedure for checking the airflow?

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

Soooooo.... That wasn't it. I definitely did have a flow problem. It was at 21 PSI, then the next day back to 35. I went through an extensive process of elimination, tried running without filters (no change). Turned out to be a broken check valve between the filter and the heater. The flap...

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

I went out and ran the heater on pool mode (with the lower pressure) and it ran flawlessly. It looks like I have some bits of leaves packed into the floor drain in the spa. I'll go out there later and clean it out, but it looks like that's the culprit.

    Highest temps to heat pool

It's personal preference, but the energy costs to keep the pool that hot will be high. I don't see any pool info in your signature, but from the picture it's not a huge pool, so it may not be that big an issue (energy costs will go up with larger pools). For me, mid-80's is nice, beyond maybe...

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

I just ran out there to check it just in regular pool mode, no heaters on and the pressure is about 21 PSI. Put it in spa mode and got 24 PSI.

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

That may have been with the solar on, and the panels are probably 40 feet higher than the pump, so that may be why the pressure was so high. On the other hand, it's plumbed so everything runs through the heater, so a blockage in the heater could cause the high pressure as well. I'll have to...

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

Filters were cleaned last week. I want to say the baseline after cleaning was around 35 PSI. I'll have to double check that though. Flow looks good, pulling harder from the skimmer than prior to cleaning. However, that's when it's pulling from the pool. I haven't checked what it does when...

    IAquaLink B00088 wireless issue

@mazzurco I'm willing to bet your new network is running at a higher wifi protocol than your equipment will support, which is probably 802.11b. You might be able to get around this by setting it up as a guest network as others have mentioned, but probably the easiest solution is to just plug...

Jandy LT heater not reaching set temp- Hi Limit trips (and now Air Flow trips)

Hi all! I have a 14 year old Jandy LT400 that we really only use to heat the spa. It worked fine the last time we used it, I guess it was a few months ago. Went to turn it on the other night and it started heating up as usual, but stopped around 87 degrees. I went out to the heater and found...

    LED color changing fixture recommendation

I would probably recommend replacing it with another standard incandescent fixture and just using an LED replacement bulb. I spent over $500 on a Pentair Intellibrite color LED fixture and it lasted just under a year. I won't waste my money on one of those again.

    Solar Pool Heater - cons?

In my last house we did a DIY kit from Pool Supply World. Total cost was about $1500, including all new valves, SunTouch controller, actuators, pipes, fittings, etc. I got quotes from several places in the Sacramento area, ranging from around $4000-$6000 (which would not have included all the...

    Solar Pool Heater - cons?

Solar is awesome. The cost to install gas lines, electrical, etc., plus the high cost of running it. I have a pool with a spa, and I really only use the gas heater for the spa. The sun will do its job. It's still pretty cool up here in the Sierra foothills, and my pool is sitting at 64. One...

    Best option for plumbing

Probably not the best pool-specific product, but I've always used Red Hot Blue Glue. It tends to be a little messy, but I've NEVER had a leak with it. It does set very quickly, which can be good and bad. :) Pretty much ready for pool-level pressure as soon as you can no longer move the...

    Best option for plumbing

I agree, to avoid replacing the valve your best bet is to cut the pipe flush with the outlet of the valve and use the outer part of the fitting. I've only seen these with 1.5 inside/2 inch outside, but I suppose it could be bigger. I would suspect that it's 2 inch though. Since you're...

New member and I let my pool get away from me....

I'm guessing the check valves (the ones on the right with the clear covers) go to and from your spa. On the return (pressure) side, you have your main pool returns and bubblers. On the suction side, I'm guessing main drain and 2 skimmers. It would be a good idea to pick up a set of labels and...

Spa Draining in to the Pool

My spa doesn't have a check valve either, but I suspect it's because i don't have a raised spa. If the spa is raised up to a higher level than the pool, the water would try to drain back to equilibrium. Is your spa higher than your pool? Can you post some more pictures?

    Best option for plumbing

A picture would definitely be helpful here. I would suspect it won't matter much, so long as you don't go smaller in size than what was originally built. Typical Jandy valves would take either a 1.5" or 2" pipe (1.5 goes inside the fitting; 2 goes on the outside). Does your pipe currently go...

I was looking at those too. Curious if anyone has tried them. I know the angle is not adjustable on these, but I think the price was pretty good.

    lethargic Polaris

I'm assuming your booster pump is plumbed after your filter. From the numbers you're posting, it seems unlikely that it's a filter problem. I wouldn't think that changing the speed on your main pump would make much of a difference, since your cleaner has its own dedicated pump. More likely...

    Intellibrite 5g

I bought one for my last house. It lasted one year and one week. After that only blue worked, and it flashed several times while starting up (I'm assuming it's some sort of trouble code). Hard to believe that something that is that expensive can fail so quickly and easily. Personally I...

    Skim-a-round

I had a Skim Doctor on my old pool, bought the Skim-A-Round for this one. The main advantage of the SAR is that it also functions as a weir. It's not particularly important to me since my weir is working fine. It's just double protection from keeping debris from going back into the pool. I...

pool light replacement - unsure if correct

Yes, it is dangerous to swim in a pool with the light not installed correctly. If you have basic electrical knowledge (e.g., able to wire a switch or light fixture) and a voltmeter/multimeter, you should be able to trace the electrical path and determine where the switch is. It may be that...

New User with a (not) a New Spa

On my Hot Spring spa, there were two different drain points. I believe the main one had to be pulled out to start draining. You would take the cap off and a little bit would drain out, and the other drain was just to drain the plumbing. Check to see if you have two drains, or if you can pull...

    Add returns/intakes during remodel?

My last pool had only floor returns which meant very poor circulation. On top of that, the skimmer was in the deep end but the wind constantly blew debris to the shallow end. Keeping the pool clean was the neverending story. I gave some serious thought to adding wall returns when we...
