    Filter/Sun Damage?

My filter (and pump) are in the sun from sun up to sun down. At what point should I start being concerned w UV damage to my filter? Has anyone actually had a filter "fail" due to sun damage? Is there any sort of cover I can use - sort of like a grill cover - to help shield the filter from the...

    Return Jet Question

There is a directional "eyeball" fitting on my return jet. Should I adjust it so that I see the top of water moving? If I point it more toward the middle of the water or downward I don't see any motion on top of the water. Does this matter at all or am I overthinking it? If it is adjusted...

    Commercial Diving Board

If this is a pool used by the public to any degree I wouldn't even think of trying to repair this. The exposure to the general public is just too risky. A brand new board -installed by professionals- is the way to go. By the way, I am an Insurance Underwriter by profession. I am a Certified...

    Pool Math - Android

On the Pool Math app - do I need to input my CYA each and every time I check my free Chlorine level? I seem to remember the CYA number saving when I used the app last year??? It seems like it should save because once you get it to where you want it - it doesn't normally change...

    How Much Chlorine Loss?

Thank you! Follow up question. My Stenner pump kicks on at 9 am. To get as close as possible to how much chlorine I am losing during the day - when should I take chlorine readings? I was thinking of taking a reading about 1/2 hour after the pump shuts off and then right before sunset...

    How Much Chlorine Loss?

I have a 21,000 gallon in ground pool that is in full sun all day. Roughly how much chlorine loss can I expect in 24 hours (w no simmers)? My CYA is normally around 60. I'm trying to adjust my Stenner pump for the appropriate run time.

    Water Depth

How would you guys measure the water depth of the deep end in an in ground pool? I can't use any sort of pole or string and measure right form the coping because there is a gradual slope on the sides and I can't reach out far enough to where the bottom drain actually is. Any tips or tricks...

    When Do you test Chlorine?

I have a question in terms of when you guys actually test your FC levels. This has always sort of confused me and I'm just wondering what others do. I normally keep my CYA around 60. I get full sun on my pool from sun up to sun down. In terms of the CYA chart my target chlorine should be 7-9...

    Submersible LED Lights ?

Has anyone found decent submersible LED pool lights? I would need the suction cup version since I have an in ground pool. There tons of them on Amazon but reviews are all over the place. I'm looking for good quality lights that don't leak and will stick to my vinyl liner. Hoping someone has...

    Closing/Chlorine Level

I plan on shocking/Slamming my pool tonight for a little extra security prior to close on Saturday. Should I close it shock level or let it drift down to my normal target chlorine level for my current CYA and then close? Pool currently has no issues and is crystal clear. Thanks! Dan

    Bungee Plug

Has anyone used one of these for closing their pool? Seems like a novel approach but being that I'm in CT and my water gets so sold in the Winter I'm a bit worried the rubber plug may shrink and let water back into the plumbing. https://bungeeplug.com/#works

    pH Question

I know that recommended pH is 7.4. If my pH is 7.8 is it worth bringing it down or should I just leave it alone? All other readings are spot on. CYA - 50 FC- 7 CC- 0 I use a Stenner pump for my chlorine.

    Power Cord

Pool Pump Overheated - I think...

Update - I changed the run time on the pump. It now have it starting at 6:00 pm so there is no sun on it when it is running. Highest temp I got when taking the temp of the motor casing last night was 190. From what I read, being that my pump has a an insulation rating for Class B - run temp is...

Pool Pump Overheated - I think...

You mean check the airflow near the vents?? I'll check that tonight. The water flow from the return jet seems normal. No issues there. No new noises at all. No leaks. Not even a drip. The pump had a leak about two years ago. I had it serviced at a pool store back then and no leak issues...

Pool Pump Overheated - I think...

My pump suddenly shut off around 2 pm yesterday. It did not trip the breaker. After about 20 minutes or so I flipped the switch (off and on again) that controls the outlet that the pump is plugged in to and the pump started back up. The motor was very hot. Sitting in the sun all day on a...

    Combined Chlorine

One thing I never understood.... A reading of. 5 combined chlorine is acceptable to end a SLAM. But if I am getting .5 combined chlorine after testing, doesn't that mean that there is actually something in the pool using up chlorine? Shouldn't combined chlorine be at zero???

Does a higher CYA in summer have advantages?

I've upped my CYA to 50 this year. I was at 30 last year. I've already noticed I'm using less chlorine. I wa afraid to go to high because of all the CYA horror stories on here but I think I've now found the "sweet spot". My pool gets full sun from sun up to sun down.
