Rusting RayPak Digital / Atmospheric / RP2100 Heater

Thanks for your post. I like your ideas. Looks like you're doing some pretty nice work. We haven't used the heater much since we found the problem. We plan on just replacing the whole thing when we can.

Failed Winter "Cover" Pump - Simple Replacement?

Hi All! It's that time of year in NJ when we have closed pools and (this year) cover pumps hard at work diverting all of that rain water away from our pools. After the last bout of rain, I did a check on the pump we've been using for the past few years to keep the top inches of water below the...

Rusting / Rot in Base of RayPak Heater

Hi all, I hope this post finds you all well! My newest issue is one that has been building for some time now but has finally reached a point where something needs to be done and I need to decide which course of action to take. The base of my RayPak P-R406A Pool and Spa heater has been...

    Air Leak in Raised Spa

Hi everyone, hope your summer is going well. A couple of weeks ago I noticed that there were air bubbles blowing out of the first jet in my raised spa. Since it was only coming out in the spa and has a Zodiac Polaris QT Spa Blower I suspected the blower was the problem. I took the blower off...

Got it. I've been poking around for a while now and can't seem to find any other mention of it.

    Remote Control for Raypak Heater

Hi all, I've read several threads about people using automation systems like Aqualink and others to control their pool heaters. My question is: Is there a way to (simply) remotely control my Raypak R406A's heat settings (on/off temp up/temp down)? Thanks as always. Patrick

How about the weather in the Northeast finally cooperating????

Stuck at 66 in Central NJ. While all of the rain we've had is great for temporarily reducing my water bill, I'd appreciate some clear skies so everything else could dry (like my equipment for closing that's still wet!).

    Inground Pool Backwash hose

Here's an example of one that has poly reinforcing threading in it. Lays flat and takes up same amount of room as the thin plastic ones you see at pool stores...

Adding water - Auto Shut Off

Wow. I mean REALLY WOW, like REALLY REALLY WOW! This has got to be one of the most awesome DIYs I've seen in a very long time. After 2 years of use how is it working? Need to make any major mods?

    Nature Cartridge Housing - Chlorine?

Hi All, Ever since I ditched the Nature Mineral Cartridge, I've always wondered about this. Since I'm stuck with the housing piped into the system already (sure, I could take it out and patch the pipe, but IMO this is more trouble than it's worth), is there a possible alternate use for it...

    Iron Level in Water

Thanks for the tip with the paper towels. The reason I had brought a water sample to store wasn't because I don't test my own water, it was because I was going there anyway. I didn't think I needed to put that it in my post.

    Iron Level in Water

Hi All, I recently brought a water sample (opened the pool last week) to the pool store for testing. I hadn't gotten a test with levels of metals before so I'm wondering just what this means and if I need to treat it. The test came back with a "0.7 Iron" result. I don't see anything that...

Clorox Pool & Spa Green Algae Control

Hi all, Over the winter someone gifted me a gallon of Clorox Pool & Spa Green Algae Control algaecide. My pool has a waterfall and I can't use it if it's not a non-foaming solution. I can't find any information as to whether it is or is not foaming. Is anyone familiar with this product or...

Skimmer Placement - Hard to Remove Basket

Hi all, In their infinite wisdom, my pool installer placed one of the two skimmers in a horribly inconvenient place. The lid is behind a rock wall in a landscaping bed about 18" from the surface of the pool deck. So, because of the obstacles in the bed and the rock wall I have to kneel on...

water missing from pool while closed

We've had a string of nice weather days, if you want to add some water I would say go ahead and do it. How deep is the shallow end where you have 12" of water remaining? Keep an eye on your cover pump and see if it starts to pump out water once the water level gets higher.

    Order of balancing chemicals

HI All, It's been a while since I've posted and I need a reminder on this issue. With the Pool Chemistry listed below, what order should I balance the in? Ex. pH, FC, ALK or FC, pH, ALK, etc. FC: 1.52 TC (CC): 2.73 PH: 6.8 ALK: 56 CYA: 106 CH: 47 I have no idea how I arrived at this level of...

    Chlorination Combination Question

Since joining our community of Pool Owners/Maintainers I've paid a great deal more amount of attention to what happens in my pool. I thank everyone for that. I started this year off with new chemicals (I still have yet to cross over to the BBB side) and I was wondering about their...

Opened Pool Today!! D.E. Filter Grid Eaten by Mice :(

Thanks for the tip, I'll put that on my closing check list. I was also thinking that if I figure out the threading of the pressure gauge on the top, I might be able to find some type of plug for it. Maybe just a rubber or cork bung? Hmmm.....
