    Pool Warmer using solar panel

We're getting closer to the opening season and are the request of the other half, I was asked to figure out a method of heating the pool without using a solar cover (she feels its a bit unsightly, especially on a large wheel for storage). Dig a bit of digging and I found an interesting method...

Storing for the winter : Dolphin Nautilus CC

Can anybody recommend videos or tutorials for storing the robotic vacuum? Meaning, cleaning it out, lubing important areas (if needed) etc. Just bought it this season, and I'd like to make it last. (Will be stored in a container in the garage) Thanks.

Bottom filter drain cover, something smaller possible?

I've noticed this summer that my poor roboto will try and run over the bottom pool filter grate and sometimes gets stuck. For next season, can I switch it out for something that isn't as tall? This is similar to what I have...

Total Alkalinity test, green to pink or green to red?

Just tested my TA and I am either at 50 or 60. It went a pinkish at 50, but one more drop made it red. The instructions say red, but pink is a lighter shade of it. 50 would be my minimum for TA, so it's either good at 60 or I should be keeping an eye on it if it's 50. What's the concensus?

Vacation for a week... first time away with a pool

Out of the country starting Friday for about 7 days. A friend is coming by to clean and skim the pool when we are away. Don't want to involve him in testing etc the two or three times he comes, so I may just put the SWCG setting to where it'll continue to increase my FC overtime and when I get...

1.5 months into the season, and did a full test after a week of heavy rain (Questions)

The rain has been brutal for the past week, and I've had drain the pool back down to acceptable water levels twice just this week. As I am 1.5 months into the season, and with the transfer of water that happened... figured it would be a good time to do a full workup. FC 9.0 CC .5 PH 7.6 TA 60...

Learning the SWCG process, but a bit concerned.

Trying to learn the dance of what keeps the FC levels balanced with what SWCG % at 8 hr run speed. All the test results are in my log sheet if you want to browse. Today's results were; FC 7.5 CC 0.0 Yesterday was FC of 8, and I pushed the SWCG a bit higher. I've been testing daily until I...

Little particles on the pool surface in the morning... pollen (or some other vegetation) or something more sinister?

Bit hard to see unless it's in the son, but there are very small particles that show up on the pools surface in the am. You can't really see it unless it's directly in the sunlight, and I can skim it out (or it just disappears when the water gets moved). I think it's just from the plants that...

    Skimmer and water level.

The angle of which I look at the skimmer makes it look like it's always low. I even took a measuring tape and measured the opening (about 5.5 inches) to where the water was currently (approximately 3.5 inches). It's driving me a bit batty. Is there something I can draw or put on the sides of...

Move over Algae, wind, pollen and everything that comes with is my enemy now

Fairly breezy today and the top of the water is showing it. The skimmers have been cleaned out already, but the manual skimmer (me) is doing a few laps around the pool getting the floaters out. Pollen has been fairly bad, turned my car yellow and I see a yellow ring around the pool wall every...

SLAM or do a OCLT first?

FC = 3.5 CC = .5 PH = 7.2ish? TA = 60 CH = 150 CYA = 60ish, maybe 70 Opened it last week. Had a hiccup with the motor, so I was scrubbing and vacuuming every day. Got the pump 100% yesterday and came home today to find this at the bottom of the pool. Thoughts?

Need to replace the seal in the pump... could this be causing low vacuum suction? (With picture)

I noticed even though I turn off a skimmer when I hook up the vacuum, I'm not getting appropriate amount of suction to clean up the bottom of the pool. I noticed there was water coming out of the side of the pump at times, a friend said its due to a worn out seal inside the pump. He's gonna...

Opened pool for my first time, installed SWG.. need some guidance

Manual for the SWG says to balance the chemicals first before turning it on. I added liquid CHL yesterday as my FC level was showing 4.5. My CYA was either 60 or 70 as well. This morning I tested for FC, CYA and salt. FC was 6. CYA was still 60 or 70. Salt was 2400. Question now, Should i...

Installing the SWG this week... have the TF-Pro.

I have installed the SWG console and hooked it to the pool timer. My friend (who opens pools as a side job) will be coming this week to help install the piping for the SWG. Reading a thread I posted a month ago...

Pool filter timer (also w/ heater)

Need to switch out my pool timer. Its original to the pool I believe (20 years old) and its a bit long in the tooth. I also have a heater that needs to be hooked up to it as well. Thoughts?

Opening the pool in a month (ish), wish to upgrade to SWG. Have one picked out but want opinions...

Friend of mine in the pool business will be helping me install come May. I noticed today that the SWG I want is having a promo, and its about $300 to $400 less than what it normally goes for. It was recommended to get the largest available SWG for my pool size, and it was suggested last fall...

Gritty stuff at the bottom of the pool overnight, mustard gas or big sand problem?

First time pretty decent chunks of whatever that is, was at the bottom of the pool. It's not slimy, which leads me to believe it's a sand issue? (I was able to brush that up to the shallow end to be vacuumed up)

New to the pool heater realm.. any advice?

Started up the pool heater for the first time yesterday. I am running a Raypak 206A natural gas. As you shouldn't run it when the pool pump is off, what is your procedure? Start in the morning? Or just a couple hours before hand?

    PH level and water heaters

I currently have a high CYA of around 100. I'm keeping the FC level above 10, to keep away the algae issues. Knowing a FC over 10 goofs up PH levels, I'm concerned a bit over using the pool heater at a possible higher PH level. The pool inspector advised me higher PH levels can damage pool...

Maybe this isnt algae and one of my laterals are bad?

Keeps popping up on the bottom of my pool by the main drains. Thought it was algae at first because when I brushed it and other areas of the pool I'd get the "poof" reaction. However, the last few times after adjusting my FC high enough it appears the bottom stuff won't poof anymore and I can...

Got the TF Test Kit Pro... results and pictures.

Got the test kit in the mail the other way when I was away. Ever got excited for something but nervous as well? CYA 80-90 (two tests). As mentioned on here, its going to take awhile to get used to it to really feel comfortrable with the results. The two tests I did were in that range. FC...

Question on pool mechanics and valves...

For the valves... what direction does it have to be to have them open? If you could, use the hande and the coresponding direction to explain. Such as handle needs to be on the East for it to be open.. or, North for it to be closed.

Greetings from someone who always wanted a pool.....

Worked as a lifeguard for years. Understood the chemicals and testing, but never behind the scenes work. Now that I own a pool that I am solely responsible for.... I hope to learn quite a bit between now and when I close it up in October.
