    Help With Identifying Plumbing Part

I need to know what this ring in the photo is called that screws onto my pump. Also, where can I get a replacement? It is cracked and causing a suction leak so my pool is not filtering properly. Appreciate the help!

Pool Cooling Strategies with Tracking - Fountain, Evening, etc.

If you run your pump and thus your evaporative cooling fountains during the day you get the benefit of lower humidity and your cleaning the pool so if guests come over or you want to swim the water is clean. If you run at night only then you will find during the day your surface water is dusty...

Pool Cooling Strategies with Tracking - Fountain, Evening, etc.

If you can get two fountains to run for 8 hours per day, from 12 pm - 8 pm when humidity levels are lower, and spray the water 8-10 ft in the air then you will see a dramatic difference. You are essentially aerating your pool right now. What you need is evaporative cooling. The only way that...

    Flush Mount Return Jet Removal

Interesting but how does it grab the tabs of the locking ring to remove that so you can get to the eyeball fitting?

    Flush Mount Return Jet Removal

Anyone know what tool can remove this ring so that I can get my eyeball out? I want to hook fountains up to my returns to cool the pool. The black ring has two notches on it and I cannot remove. Once the ring is loose then the return eyeball comes out.

Pool Cooling Strategies with Tracking - Fountain, Evening, etc.

Interested to see what happens over the next couple of days. Given your water volume, you may need another fountain to cool the pool more efficiently and to a lower temp.

Much of it has to do with the subcontractors that the builder is using. The builder is often at the mercy of the subs schedule. In order to keep jobs moving it is not uncommon for subs to work a few hours on one and jump over to another one so they can keep the progress going on multiple jobs...

    Salt vs Chlorine

The rust and damage you read about are more likely due to improper water chemistry than a saltwater cell. The salt content of a SWG pool is about 3,000 ppm. The salt content of the ocean is around 30,000 ppm. Poorly balanced water will have a much more severe effect on items in and around the...

DEPTH: Sports pool OR Traditional Shallow 2 Deep?

The larger concern with party pools or sport pools is water temp in hotter climates. Probably not an issue for you being in Toronto. A 4' 5' 4' allows for swimming as well as pool games like basketball and volleyball. We have a 4' 5' 4' and my wife is 5'4 so when she gets to the middle water is...

Taking the Plunge (literally and figuratively) with My Pea-Green Pool

You are on the right path and congratulations for now taking the steps to ridding yourself of this algae problem, pool services and trips to a pool store. Aside from maintaining your FC level during the SLAM, get as much organic matter out of the pool and brush, brush, brush. It will speed up...

Help my pool is a cloudy teal

That is critical at this point. You will save yourself much time, agony and money the faster you get any and all organic matter out. It can mean the difference between days to clear and weeks.

Help my pool is a cloudy teal

Welcome to the forum! The solution is in understanding the process that Texas Splash outlined above. Once you understand how to test your water, the SLAM process and what it is and how to care for your water, the likelihood of having problems goes way down and when one does arise you will know...

    Variable Speed Pump Schedule Suggestion?

    Variable Speed Pump Schedule Suggestion?

VSPs are awesome, congrats on the new hardware, your life just got easier! I run mine at 1400 RPM for 8 hours 9-5 daily. Check your SWG for minimum RPM output as some need more than others to properly chlorinate. My SWG can operate at low flow rates, i.e. under 1200 RPM but I run it at 1400 RPM...

New to this . Numbers just tested with Taylor kit. Water is still cloudy with small amounts of algae

You are in good hands here. As suggested earlier, read ABC's of Pool Water Chemistry and review the entire Pool School eBook. Those two links alone will solve 95% of any pool issue. More importantly, you will understand why.

Cyclic Battle with High pH and Low TA

So long as you are over 7.2 and under 8 on pH and between 60 - 80 on TA you'll be fine. It's tempting to want to hit the numbers perfect but that will lead to madness. So long as I am in range I am pleased and know that myself, family and friends will enjoy the water.

Is the pool guy really this off?

Always trust your numbers as you can verify where they came from. The same can't be said for equipment housed in a back room at a pool store. The more hands-on you are with your pool and testing the more likely it is you will never have significant issues. I'll always put my money on an invested...

Cyclic Battle with High pH and Low TA

Your pool is the same as mine in age, size, and features. Having a salt pool the PH will tend to be closer to 8 and your shell is also still curing. I dose mine with MA weekly as it will go to 8 in about 7 days. I take it down to about 7.4 and let it drift back up. I am curious to see next year...

DEPTH: Sports pool OR Traditional Shallow 2 Deep?

We went 4' 5.5' 4' and love it. We wanted a party pool and if I need a quick cool shower the sheer descents provide that. We built specifically so we could play volleyball, basketball and after being in so many pools for so many years it was obvious that the deep end got used less than 10% of...

Your build: What would you do differently?

Get the extra skimmer. It is a no brainer. I can get the surface of my pool clean in 30 minutes with heavy debris blown in when I crank my variable speed pump up. The $700 will be money very well spent. Only takes 30 seconds to clean a skimmer.

Your build: What would you do differently?

A cartridge filter is the in-between from a DE filter and sand filter as far filtering performance. Not quite as good as DE but superior to sand. From a maintenance standpoint, I feel they are the best. Simple to clean and you never have to backwash.

Things I wish I did. 1. Another pool light so that our tanning ledge is not in the dark at night. 2. Automation.
