    The pool mesh big top

Well, so far it’s definitely helping quite a bit, but the pool is certainly still needing some daily cleaning attention. It seems this is a big year for helicopters and, coupled with the consistent south wind (trees are due south of the pool) an unprecedented amount of debris is coming down...

    The pool mesh big top

Opened the pool last week, but knew I was going to be in a battle with the neighbor's trees that were still waiting to drop copious oak strands and Maple helicopters directly in our pool. So I got out the leaf cover we bought last year and tried to rig it up - however, I found if it was left...

    Small brown spots

Nope - nothing else in or near the pool except a ton of helicopter seed pods from a nearby maple tree. Seems unlikely, but I wonder if the Hardness up or Alk up could have done it?

    Small brown spots

Hi all - I noticed some small brown spots on the bottom of the pool today - mostly just past the return. They’re pea-sized and very stubborn - I couldn’t brush or scrape them off with my fingernail. I haven’t tried the vitamin C tab test yet (only have powder on hand), but curious if anyone has...

Another pump bonding question (above ground)

Great - thanks for the feedback!

Another pump bonding question (above ground)

Thanks - that makes sense re: electrical box. I did read the TFP overview (and a host of other sources), but just wanted to be sure I'm covering my bases here. Regarding the ladder - we have a metal ladder that attaches to mounts on the deck. Since the ladder is bonded to the water (I...

Another pump bonding question (above ground)

Hi all - while digging around getting things ready to plumb together for our pool season I've realized that our pump is not bonded properly (inherited pool / equipment). I did a lot of poking around to learn what I need to do & came up with a tentative plan, but wanted to solicit some advice /...

    Easy skimmer basket clog prevention

Inspired by a similar idea I ran across somewhere, I devised a simple but seemingly effective way to prevent the skimmer basket from clogging up while going out of town for a few days. All you need is some line, a pool noodle and some zip ties (and maybe a drill to drill a couple of holes to...

    SLAM question - stained liner

Great - thanks for the advice. One more day it is. Won’t be able to OCLT until Sunday/Monday, so I may keep it up for another day or two just to be sure (not good swimming weather the next few days anyhow).

    SLAM question - stained liner

Currently in the process of a pool-opening SLAM. Water is clear, but liner is stained dark green / brown on the walls and floor throughout the pool except for below the return where bleach is added - I am presuming this indicates it’s likely organic staining? It’s similar to the “ring” left by...

    Pump shaft seal leak tolerance

We just got a new Hayward Power Flo LX 1hp pump. I’ve been running it 24 hrs for a couple days and noticed a tiny bit of water accumulating on the outside of the housing under the shaft towards the impeller (maybe a couple mLs overnight). It’s not dripping or actively spitting, and the shaft is...

    Newbie with a few questions

So I vacuumed, brushed and backwashed the filter yesterday, then worked to get my CYA up. I added some chlorine and did a test before bed (then added another sock of CYA) and again around 9am this morning - here are the #s (am test on right): FC: 5.5. 5.5 CC: 0.5. 0 TC: 6.0. 5.5 pH...

    Newbie with a few questions

Thanks for the tip - How long might it take to dissolve with the sock method if I'm raising from CYA <20 (hours, days)? I have the TF-100 Roger that - are there large sinking "pads" available (similar to a ladder pad) that I could put over the spot to reduce the wear / extend the life? I...

    Newbie with a few questions

Hi all - newbie here - just bought a house with an aged but functioning above-ground pool system (despite my user name it is NOT a salt system). Opened it up this weekend and trying to get it dialed in with the help of TFP. I had to get a new pump, so I downgraded to a 1.0hp from 1.5 hp that was...
