A question about keeping algae out of my pool.

Thank you! Good to know! Yes, I’ve been trying to share knowledge of TFP for years, but they don’t think they have time to do it themselves. They don’t realize how easy it is. Actually, easier than taking a sample in once a week!

A question about keeping algae out of my pool.

First off, this forum is great! My pool has been beautiful since joining this forum a number of years ago. A wealth of knowledge here. Question: My daughter’s pool cleaner quit working last week and she has been borrowing ours until they can get their’s repaired or replaced. I went to clean...

Filling new pool after remodel and added too much pool bleach.

FC dropped to 4ppm by this morning. Happy about that! Will get more stabilizer in it when the pump starts up. Other numbers are all good! Thank you!

Filling new pool after remodel and added too much pool bleach.

I added it to a bucket of water, poured it in, then brushed it around. It is filling now, so will keep diluting.

Filling new pool after remodel and added too much pool bleach.

Ok, great! I did add some stabilizer, but not much. Looking for reassurance all is ok. Thank you!

Filling new pool after remodel and added too much pool bleach.

Hi, all! I've been doing TFP method for the last three years and love it. We did a pool remodel this spring after almost thirty years and finally got the new vinyl liner installed today and water is being added as I type. I read on here that it's a good idea to go ahead and get a little...

    CYA/SWCG question

I usually keep my pool uncovered once the weather warm hits, but it's been very rainy and I've had to drain water off my pool twice, so until summer arrives, I'll keep it covered. But I'll go ahead and raise CYA, because once it gets warm and stays nice, it'll be open most of the time. Never...

    CYA/SWCG question

Hi, I've been using the TFP method for two years with much success! Thanks to you all! I recently (2 wks ago) had a SWCG put in. Pentair Intellichlor model IC40. I had the local pool store install and in hindsight, wish I would have requested the IC60 for my 35,000gal pool. Alas, I did not and...

    Is this normal?

Thanks, I didn't realize it would hold FC all winter. Good to know! I have the aquabot in now. I think I'll add my bleach a little at a time around the pool and let the aquabot help mix it and also use the brush and close it back up until we get home. Then open. Thanks!

    Is this normal?

Thanks, Maddie! Think I should wait to get the pool up and running and just move the water around after adding the bleach, then cover it? Will it mix well enough? We had problems getting the auto cover opened and by the time they fixed it, we haven't had time to open the lines and get it...

    Is this normal?

After struggling getting my pool in line spring of last year (ammonia issues), it was a breeze all summer! I closed the pool in October by TFP recommendations and didn't look at it until this week, April 10th. The pool is crystal clear with a few leaves. But I was amazed at my numbers before...

    Slam process question

Hang in there, 7guys! I dropped thirty gallons of bleach in my pool for a week and kept wondering why I couldn't hold FC overnight, until someone mentioned that it could be ammonia. I bought an ammonia test at a pet store and it showed slight ammonia (0.25). Three days later and another 27gals...

PH continues to rise with CH at 450

H, first I want to thank all who have helped me as I was just getting started. I'm two months in now and all is going pretty well. Here are my numbers: FC-7 PH-8 TA-70 CH-450 CYA-30 The PH was closer to 7.9, redder than 7.8, but not quite 8. Assuming with my TA a little high, that's going to...

Holding FC at night, but losing a lot during the day

Ok, I checked CYA outside with the sun at my back. It does make a difference! A little more than 45, so I round up to 50, correct? The last few days I'm losing between 2-4ppm and I now understand that's normal. Just was hoping I wouldn't have to add bleach every night, but sounds like that is...

Holding FC at night, but losing a lot during the day

I don't recall the Taylor kit saying I need to do the CYA test in sunlight. Been doing it in my kitchen where I keep my test kit. And I may be making it too technical in judging the dot! I was trying to make sure I couldn't see it all all indoors. Definitely not doing the last four items! ;-)...

Holding FC at night, but losing a lot during the day

It's not ozone. I'm not sure the theory, but they are titanium bars that oxidizes the water as it passes thru. I was under the impression that I would need less chlorine to hold the the FC level. I'll try disabling the unit unit next week and see if it makes a difference.

Holding FC at night, but losing a lot during the day

I seem to be holding the overnight OCLT. It's just the daytime that is dropping. I k ew I would lose chlorine, just didn't expect this much. I may call and ask about the oxygenation part of the Ecosmarte that I keep going to see if that affects the chlorine, but I don't think it does. It's just...

Holding FC at night, but losing a lot during the day

I'm using 10% and we have had no bathers, yet. Temps have been a little cooler, lately, and water is at 75 degrees. I probably need to do more reading, still learning. The last two days I've had the pool open, I've lost 7ppm each day. I'm concerned how much I'll lose once it gets warmer and we...

Holding FC at night, but losing a lot during the day

Hi, somewhat new to TFP. Had what I think was ammonia issues in the beginning. Ammonia is now at 0. Did the Slam last week. Thursday morning my FC held without losing more than .5. Pool is very clear and CC is 0.4. CYA is at 35. But I'm still losing so much chlorine during the day! This morning...

    Slamming in the rain

Ok, I slammed all week and kept FC mostly 9ppm to 13ppm last two days, checking every 1-3 hrs and had no FC loss last night!!! Criteria for finishing Slam: Water is crystal clear CC <= 0.5 OCLT = lose 1 ppm of FC or less I believe I've finished the Slam as I've met all these. We left for the...

    Slamming in the rain

Hi, I have a question about slamming in the rain. I had an ammonia issue, which is now resolved and started my slam yesterday. Today it's raining and expected to rain all day. I thought about covering the pool and checking FC levels from the skimmer, but I found a post that said a mesh cover is...

    Confusion on FC CC test

Chlorine dropped, again! Maybe this is normal, but I was surprised after it stayed the same overnight that it dropped this much since this morning. 1pm FC 1.5 and CC0.5. Added 2 1/2 gals 10% bleach. I'll plan to get some stabilizer later today. Sorry, JoeSelf! I have been testing in 10ml...

    Confusion on FC CC test

Also, wanted to mention that my CYA may be a bit low. I can just barely see the dot when water is to the brim, so I'm guessing it's around 20. Recommendation is 30-60. Pool calculator says I need to add 40oz by weight or 42oz by volume stabilizer. Or 104oz of liquid stabilizer. Is one type...

    Confusion on FC CC test

Ok! So I'm FINALLY getting somewhere! Picked up an ammonia kit on my way home last night. Ammonia was 0.25. Maybe just a hint of lime green, but almost yellow. FC-0, so I shocked with 3 gal 10% liquid pool shock from Rural King. 4 gal for $7.99! I think that's a good deal. I checked 2hrs later...

    Confusion on FC CC test

Ok, thanks so much for suggestions! I'll check my ammonia and old bleach bottles to see if they've expired, when I get home. Will also check my reagents with the bleach/water test. Was hoping to get this handled before I left town for the weekend, but wasn't able. Closed the pool and will see...

    Confusion on FC CC test

I took a pool sample into the pool store and phosphates are high at 2144. They wanted to sell me remover, but I declined for now. Could that be the reason chlorine is leaving so fast? Or just that I didn't keep adding chlorine until I got to shock level for a 30000 gal pool? It was steadily...
