    Winterizing Kit?

Very good. Thank you both for the reply. I will pick up some polyquat 60 for the closing instead of their bioguard stuff.

    Winterizing Kit?

So my PB is coming out to close us up for our free closing and they say to add my winterizing kit one day before they come to close. I assume this is the bio guard kit since that is all they push in the store. It’s arctic blue (read copper?) algaecide and what looks like trichlor. I assume just...

    Walk-In Pool Steps

I also have the steel step with the padded vinyl over the top. Our step has a noticeably rougher texture than the rest of the vinyl in the pool. Our PB suggested it as soon as we said we wanted steps. It was a negligible cost difference. However, the steps are not slippery at all. And it...

    Itnstalling SWCG

Yes, based on the prices they have wanted to charge me for certain other items my guess is that it will be pretty spendy to have them do it. I will look into a different "professional" installer as well.

    Itnstalling SWCG

Good to know. Thanks. I will take a good look at what my PB charges to see if the warranty difference is worth it.

Great stuff Jim! Some great points and advice. Thanks so much.

    Itnstalling SWCG

I will take a look at the parts next time I go to clean out my pit. The cover is from http://www.automaticpoolcovers.net. Typically the cover is open every day at least to check my levels. Otherwise if people aren't swimming it is closed. I am in MN so my season is from mid May to mid...

    Itnstalling SWCG

Thanks for the reply Jim. Would it all work best with an easy touch? If I am away and my wife has to adjust anything would it be easier with one? I will look into my auto cover's manufacturer to see if they have any recommendations

    Itnstalling SWCG

So I am looking into a SWCG system to add to my pool. I was kind of spooked away from it initially by my PB on account of having an auto cover, basketball hoop, slide, etc...They said the addition of salt is more trouble than it's worth. Having read various testimonies here about the benefits of...

    Polymeric sand?

Are you talking regular sand or polymeric sand? My regular sand near the pool edge has crusted over and turned black. It flakes off when I use the leaf blower to clean off the surface.

    Polymeric sand?

Haha! Thanks for the advice. It's very helpful.

    Polymeric sand?

    Great! When can you start!?

    Polymeric sand?

Would you use one of those large vibrator tampers like when compacting the underlying base? Or some have said a broom handle but we have quite a few pavers of varying sizes and that would prove to be a lot of tapping. I will do what needs to be done regardless. Just curious.

    Polymeric sand?

I have been doing some more research and that is what I have found. Better than regular sand but not a prefect replacement. I wonder if in my neck of the country it will be affected more by cold winters. I guess we will find out as the wife is pretty adamant. Ha! As long as the pool water...

    Polymeric sand?

Good to know. Thanks for the response. I wonder if I could get most of the sand out with a pressure washer or just a hose? It would be messy but at least it would keep the particulate matter down.

    Polymeric sand?

So when we installed our pool last season our landscaper recommended against polymeric sand in between our new paver patio on account of it leaving a haze behind after wetting it. Well, as you can imagine, sand it messy, ants love it, and now my wife is at her wits end. So now We are looking...

    2nd month of owning pool

Hiya and congrats on the pool! What is your CYA? Your FC will be dependent on that. Could be high, could be just fine depending on your CYA...

FC drops 1PPM per day. Is this normal?

Is your pool uncovered all day? The sun alone will break down your chlorine all by itself. So even if no organic matter gets into the pool the chlorine is always on the decline.

    Sump pump for pool cover

WAPC250 | WAYNE Pumps I have this pump for my automatic pool cover. It works well. It has an auto sensor so that it will switch on when the water level rises. Toss it out onto the cover whenever rain is in the forecast and it does the rest. It can get a little finicky if you get lots of...

    Summer Vacation

I hear ya on that. When I went away I pre measured my chlorine for my mother in law when she came over to check on the pool while we were gone. All she had to do was dump it in. But then again I am that kind of guy about things like this lol.

Can that person who's coming over to turn the pump on add a little bleach each day too?

    Base filter pressure?

Yeah everything has been going very well in my first year so I am just trying to make sure I am not missing anything. If I crank it up to 2300 rpms I can get the pressure to that ~10psi but then that is quite a bit more energy than 1800 or so.

    Base filter pressure?

Lol thanks for the info. Sounds like a plan!

    Base filter pressure?

Fyi...In the above picture I am running at 1800rpms

    Base filter pressure?

I was wondering if there is a relationship between my sand filter gauge and the pressure markings on it and a minimum speed for my intelliflo VS pump? Is the "start" arrow where my minimum pressure should be when the pump is on? Also, my "clean" pressure is well above the 20-25% recommended...

    Intelliflo VS 2 Pump Settings

Thanks very much for the responses. It seems like the way it is set up I am probably using it way too much. My electric bill since our first opening would tend to back that up! So, during the day when it is covered I probably don't need it doing much at all do I? So, I can set it up for maybe a...

    Intelliflo VS 2 Pump Settings

Hi all! So after over a month open and feeling pretty confident about my water testing and treatment routine I am now interested in my VS pump and optimizing my settings. The pool guy set up a routine on it so that it runs at roughly 2150 RPM during the day and then between 12AM and 4AM it...
