    Slam process question

Re: I've slammed for 48 hours and 26 bottles of bleach but...... Several things sound off here. How are you testing?

Ok I tried to go the cheap route

I would just go ahead and order the TFT and not spend the money on the other. It should only take 2-3 days to reach your location.

Brand New Home - Neglected IG Pool

Cindy, Everything Tim told you above, also double check that pool capacity. 30,000 seems high to me for a 16 X 32.

    I did everything wrong, HELP!

The filter is not the main problem with your green water, it is a chemistry issue. The filter does need to be fixed, but until you get your test kit you are just guessing not slamming. After you get your test kit and start proper testing and chemical addition you will make great progress.

    Frustrated with Algae

No offense, but you have only applied a band aid. Until you start testing your own water and stop with the useless additives you are not going to get the results you want long term.

    New to This

Steven, 6% bleach is no problem, it just takes more versus the higher concentrations to do the job.

    Newbie - First Test Results

It would seem like it should have dropped more if you drained around the same volume as last time. Looks like another partial drain is in order. Btw, are you taking the water level as far down as you are comfortable with?

I have tried everything from A to Z and pool is still cloudy!!!

If you don't keep your chemistry in check it will only be a temporary fix at best.

    The swamp in my backyard...

Unfortunately, those kits are not going to give you a good picture of what is going on with your water. However, with a proper test kit and the methods learned here, you will save money by bypassing the pool store and their potions. Tell your Dad that the test kit will save him money in the long...

    Lost.

Where did you come up with the 2 gallons of bleach? I don't know how many gallons of water your pool hold, but 9 is not going to be high enough to SLAM.
  16. J

    First time SLAM. Few questions.

Yes, you would raise it back up to 28. With a CYA of 70, I don't think you should be having to add 3 gallons of bleach each day, which would point to there being algae somewhere in your system eating your chlorine. It could be behind a light, on steps, around skimmer any lower flow nook or...

    Newbie - First Test Results

I would repeat the partial drain. You cut cya almost in half, another should put you in the 70 range. Test and see where it gets you down to. You may have to repeat one more time after that, but it will be worth your trouble.

    Cloudy still. Please help anyone.

Why did you stop your SLAM after 3 days? Did you pass the 3 criteria for ending it? https://www.troublefreepool.com/content/125-slam-shock-level-and-maintain-shockingl - - - Updated - - - mcknauss beat me to it.:)

When is a SLAM complete? The definitive answer

I think the answer should be, "If you have to ask if you are done with SLAM you are probably not done with SLAM"

Maddie is right of course. If you have no algae and the water is clear you will not need to SLAM your pool, only get your chemistry balanced.

New pool owner need big time help

A 100 sq ft. cartridge filter on your pool is probably too small. Folks here recommend you oversize filtration for best results/less maintenance.

    HELP...New Pool Chemical Balancing

I would just maybe add 1 gallon of bleach a day until proper test kit arrives. Then, Cut off SWG Lower ph to 7.2 Raise cya to 30 Begin SLAM Read and understand PoolMath and don't add anything that isn't recommended here.

Help. First time pool owner in Nassau County, NY.

George, You should have 3 in/outs on top of your filter. One should be from the pump to the filter The second would be the outlet from the filter back to the pool The third should be waste. It may not have anything connected to it.

Ok to clean filter? Ok to end slam?

    - - - Updated - - - From Pool School: You are done when: CC is 0.5 or lower; You pass an OCLT (ie overnight FC loss test shows a loss of 1.0 ppm or less); And the water is clear. When all three are true, you are done SLAMing and can allow the FC to drift down to normal levels. Is that...

    Algae in newly opened pool

It's pretty apparent that they are going to follow the advice of the pool store and trust their methods. That pretty much makes advice from anyone that follows the methods here useless.

Corbin, I don't know if anyone here is going to have an exact answer for you. The thing I would tell you is to not cut it too close. Maybe add at least about 5 feet to those dimensions. Maybe someone can be more precise.

FRUSTRADED First time SLAMMER...Stay the course or time for some clarifier???

Crocop, I would give the pool a left leg head kick and knock out the cloudiness. Seriously, you look pretty close. I would add the de and keep the SLAM going. https://www.troublefreepool.com/content/133-add-de-to-a-sand-filter
