SLAM woes

So I should wait to add the CYA until I get the new test kit then huh?
Your thread here is growing long by the minute, so I hope I didn't missing anything significant recently. But yes, if you are still waiting on your (proper) test kit to arrive, it's best to wait before making any drastic chemical changes. Just add the same amount of liquid chlorine each day for now. Once you get the test kit, the accurate results will tell us everything we need to know and how to proceed.

Okay @Texas Splash - let's help a sister out.

If I am putting this together right... skimmer is pulling water from the pool down into the filtration, up to your Frogger - then it dumps back into your pool via that return.

How are you feeding water into the Bucket now? Is that a siphoned hose?

My recommendation... Take your 5-gallon poly-filled bucket and drill a hole in the bottom to fit this return. Take the lid and drill 30 - 50 holes in half of it (all on one side). You'll then be running your filtered water back through the poly-bucket and doing two things:
1. Creating motion in your water - helps ward off some algae @PoolStored corrected me here 💪
2. Filtering more iron out of your pool water via pressure, rather than what is happening on the patio railing.

Does that make sense?

First pic - the bottom attachment is an extra pool part that fits the return line - I run the return through the polyfil for additional filtering (my water is EXTREMELY gross and very rusty)

Second pic - 50+ holes in the lid. I actually angle my bucket "holes up" to keep the bucket from bursting under pressure (hence the ratchet strap too).

It’s pouring rain here… but here’s some pics of my bucket back in action

Instead of using the return to the pool, I go through the bucket. Bucket has a good amount of water flow - I just filled with brand new poly. I had to use extra plumbers putty because I have a small leak in the bottom of the bucket

Also - my pool turns teal (not clear) after 30 or so mins of filling from the hose. Not ideal and this is the best way to keep it at bay on fill days.

Also - don’t mind my frame… that’s a story for another day.

Hope this helps!!!!

So I should wait to add the CYA until I get the new test kit then huh? I didn’t think about the chlorine needing to be higher for the SLAM. I’m just really worried algae is gonna come back while I wait. Think I can get this in order by Saturday evening? 😬
I'd wait until I got the kit.. just my experience.. I'm not a pro here.. but that cya can get away from you quick and cost you more before you can get it clear. Keep chlorinating.

I made that recommendation simply because it seemed as though the original way the bucket was configured was effecting to pools main filtration for algae and junk. Hard to see in the pics, but I believe the OP found a separate pump to do the metal filtration separately. More than one way to go about it, but they seen to be on the right track. Water looks much better already.

That's great. :goodjob: Each day we can see you're going in the right direction. Consistency and patience. You'll get it.
Okay so the suspense was killing me and I got the water tested today. CYA is at 0! Should I add some? I know you said wait until the Taylor test comes but just checking. The test kit won’t be here for a few more days 😬
