Where can I find the laws for drains in a pool. I only have a skimmer and as far as I know my pump has no entrapment safety features?

I’m wanting to know if my pool was installed breaking laws. At this point it wouldn’t surprise me

Don't think there's any laws - drains historically were a danger to swimmers and many pools are now built without drains. Functionally - they provide very little benefit, many of us with drains use them 95%+ closed off.

Can't imagine there's any entrapment risk from a skimmer, so that's likely a non-issue and most pumps do not have those features because of redesigns to modern drains.

I found this. Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Act. It talks about having to have two ways into the same return line

You have a single skimmer and no drain? Post up a photo of equipment pad and pool from a few angles.
Yes a single skimmer and that is all. I will try getting best pictures I can. I’m having problems with my power cover and don’t want to risk it getting jammed up when I need to go to bed. Sorry some pics are a few months old but it’s all I have on my phone

Just update

So it’s gotten worse. The patch still looks horrible. They messed up my stamped concrete patio. Tried to fix it and made it worse. Tried to fix again and worse yet. Found out that after I was told I still had my appointment in October with imagine that the PB canceled my appointment saying all was good. Now I have to wait till 2024 for someone to come up.

I’m also pretty sure the repair people were not authorized from imagine which may have voided my warranty.

question if my PB went under do I really lose my pool warranty?

Is the line from the skimmer to my pump supposed to have a check valve

Is the equipment very high above the pool? If so, a check valve helps with priming. Other than that there is no need.

Im at least 2 feet above the pool. I will try to get a picture this week. its dark when i leave for and get home from work
A couple of feet above the pool should not be a problem, but if you want, that ball valve in the pump suction line could be replaced with a check valve. I have no idea why there is a valve there any way. They are usually installed if the equipment is below water level.

You could replace the Frog with an SWG and be very happy.

I thought I read that my pool manufacturer didn’t allow them for warranty but I’ll look into it

Manufacturers will look for every opportunity to blame someone else for their issues. The salinity of the water when using a SWG is just about 1/3 of that of tears, and sweat, which are around 10,000PPM. If you ever use chlorine, you will be adding salt to the pool. After a few years it could be very close to what would be required for a SWG.
Something to reason on, fiberglass boats are used regularly in the ocean, which can easily be 10 times the required salinity a SWG needs. No one seems to have a problem using their boat in the ocean.

I know its just an easy out. Imagine wants your hardness to be at 100 and I know my water from my well is 150-200 but everything else I have within their specs.

Seems like no one anymore wants to take responsibility for their mistakes. just admit and fix. If you lie to me then we have problems.

they did admit to the crack after the concrete was poured not before which has started the downhill spiral of problem after problem. My contract is a 4 month build and they started in november 2022. I live in great lakes region so even given the winter months as no work time they are still pass the 4 months.

So my PB decided to not put my main drains in that were sent with the pool and only install the skimmer. I have read tons of debates on main drains.

My concern is I have one skimmer with two holes with one being plugged. I have no protection if water level gets low or line becomes plugged.

I apologize if im all over the place on this thread. I just dont trust my PB anymore

Background for anyone that doesnt know. PB cracked my pool trying to lift it and the patch looks pretty bad. I will only talk with them through email or buildertrend. I am been told to get a lawyer just tired of all the stress

So my PB finally decided to come by today.

We discussed all my concerns and he pretty much said he could take care of all of them except the look of the crack. After a little coaxing of the complete truth it was confirmed that they used their own fiberglass repair people and imagine wont even look at it. They got a little defensive but I stood my ground and used exact dates and then they knew I was taking notes. So they have pretty much offered to not fix the remaining things and not charge me the last 6k or they will fix and i pay, with the crack and the patio damage are the things that bother me the most that I cant fix.

So opinions are needed please

I really think I have a legal case but is it worth spending thousands of dollars in lawyer fees to maybe win who knows what judgement award would be. Hypothetically i dont want to deal with the BS or the PB anymore and spend a bunch of money to only net $1000.

or I can just be done with them keep the rest of my money and start figuring out how I can at least make things look a little better.

Sorry for long and probably confusing post. This is how my life has been for about 15 months with the house and the pool. I should have fired my PB who is friends with my home builder when my home builder was a nightmare to deal with.

Keep the money, get rid of the PB, and as much as things can be fixed to your satisfaction find others to do it.

Well thats some of the problem. I only owe him 6k which wont go very far.

I also found out they lied to me and had a 3rd party repair my crack and now Imagine pools wont warranty that area and it looks bad. I asked PB to have the people come fix it and they said they wont. Im starting to hear of other people having problems with him not that I have started asking around.

I really want him to stop being a bad person to people and just do what hes paid to do. I paid for a new pool and an new patio. not a patched pool with boot prints in the gel coat with a damaged patio and a cover that im pretty sure is not on correctly

Best thing you can do is to cut the cord with the PB and get away from him as quickly as you can.

Be happy you got as much as you did for what you paid him. Some folks end up being taken for more and getting less from a dishonest builder.
