You need a reliable test kit to cut the pool store cord.

They don't know their rump from their elbow when it comes to water chemistry. They do however, excel at selling you stuff you don't need, then tell you to drain when it goes south. Oh. And they have rebalancing chems for you too. Oops. Too much. You need to drain. 🤦‍♂️

See Test Kits Compared.

The TFpro from tftestkits includes a $48 stirring device that not only makes testing much easier, but also more consistent. It's a better value than the K2006c plus a smart stir.

Anywho, get yourself a kit and post up the #s. We'll walk you through the rest with nothing to sell you but good will. We'll teach you to do it on the cheap and easy.

No reason to drain your pool.

Your FC is high since you dumped in all the shock. That will drop over time.

Your pH test is inaccurate because your FC is over 10. Ignore the pH test.

The Pool Store is incompetent. You should stay out of there.

Start with doing your own testing as described above.

Thank you I ordered a test kit from Amazon TF 2006 or something like that and I am done with that store for life

Make sure it's the K2006*C*. The C is the commercial version and has enough supplies. It's the better long term value.

Download PoolMath and set up your pool deets. Click the FC tab and add 5 ppm of plain liquid chlorine (note, not houshold bleach) until the kit comes.

Walmart has 10% pool essentials in the pool aisle. Lowes does too but has been more expensive lately. HD has HDX in their pool/garden area and that's been the most expensive. Check the date codes to ensure it's 3 months old or less. It degrades and you want the freshest stuff they have.

We got you now. :)

I have to say I'm shocked, just SHOCKED - maybe even as the kids today say, SHOOK - that Leslie's is out here giving garbage pool "advice".

@Lenny. T please also purchase the SpeedStir device to make your testing easier and more accurate. It is well worth the $40.

If you have not added any chlorine since the bags of shock then you many very well have no chlorine.

Don't bother with any kind of strips for the testing. The best place for them is the trash can.

Do you have your new test kit in hand yet?

You sure are! No worries, we got you from here. No reason at all to drain that pool right now. They are probably telling you that based on the TDS number but for many pools, that number is irrelevant. Let's see what numbers you come up with from your Taylor kit first. The only way you should really have to drain or replace water is if you have crazy high CYA or CH but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
